i know its blasphemy to suggest pixel skipping but i think a 50% size of 2.5k wouldn't alias that bad, especially after going down to 1080.... since it wouldn't be debayering it should still be able to maintain high framerates of around 200fps?? good for wideangle slomo shots i was thinking.....

First off line skipping only works on a factor of 3, so skip 2 lines, keep 1, repeat. 2ndly, reducing the output resolution only ever makes aliasing worse, not better, and 3rdly it would look awful.

Hello Graeme,

Just a quick question... Is the picture seen on HDSDI or LCD before R3D compression or after? Does the camera compress to r3D then go to decompress and output or is this signal direct debayer?

"Pre-read Vs post-read... "

Thanks

Pat

The compressed path to the SSD and the monitor path while recording are in parallel. The monitor path feeds direct off the sensor data and avoids compression/decompression.

Thanks a lot for your explanations.

Next time I'll ask how your R3D wavelet compression works... ;-)

Have a nice day.

I have never met you Graeme, but I am so very glad you are working for RED and that you are willing and open to comment here as you do. I can't add any more to this thread than that, but there you go.

I think the clear goal (for me anyway) has always been can we somehow keep FOV when we get high framerates? I'd take less resolution (to a point) and more fov any day. :) can this be done?

i understood aliasing would be worse than normal.... didnt know it worked with skipping 2 lines though so yeah....with that being said it probably would look awful, Thanks for response Graeme!
