View Full Version : insuremyequipment.com, who has had a claim with them?

Wanted to see what other people's experience with this company has been filing a claim. Don't want to put my trust in a bad/shady company right? (Not saying they are bad or shady)

Anyone? No one has ever filed a claim?

PM Tom Lowe, this might be who he used.

Yeah, I remember Tom's Epic-M went for a swim. Let us know who you go with Kyle. I need insurance too.

No big worries. I’ve been working with them for 3-4 years.
Very easy claim system:
You fill the claim form, you get a call from their adjuster, you send the proper paperwork (police report, purchases receipts, replacement or repair quotes, etc.), you get another call from the adjuster with the resolution of your claim and you get the check).
They have a "new" underwriter (Onebeacon Insurance Group) who seems not to have much experience with film productions companies. Or I must say just an adjuster with no much knowledge of film production..
Besides that the only other issue I have noticed was a delay in a month of processing your claim instead the 10 or so days they cliam. All very nice people though.

Yes they replaced my Epic M after I did some unintentional underwater filming at the Salton Sea. I can recommend them. The carrier was called Fireman's insurance or something like that.

On a side note, don't go with Allianz, you get dropped after 1 claim. Shopping myself.

Now is Onebeacon Insurance.

Thanks Tom. They seem to be reasonable priced and straight forward. I need to make a decision very soon but im leaning towards insuremyequipment.com. ("One Beacon Insurance Company").

I also heard great things about Fireman's Fund. But looks like insuremyequipment.com are now using One Beacon.
i only found this on one beacon which is far from great: http://boston.citysearch.com/profile/34238391/boston_ma/one_beacon_insurance.html and http://www.getpayback.com/insurance/onebeacon-insurance/ and http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/profile/8956810/philadelphia_pa/one_beacon_insurance_group.html

any thoughts?

I use insuremyequipment.com, but I've never had to file a claim. I did notice however that in paying my annual premium (christmas day) that the price went up $20. No biggie, but considering nothing else changed, it was a big surprising.

Hi Kyle, I've been with them for 2 years. They are nice to work with, the pricing can't be beat, and they have a web interface for the most part (meaning you can edit your account via the web). My only complaint is that its almost impossible to get a hold of them on the phone, or by email. I've currently been waiting 2 weeks for them to return my phone call about a question I had... and that's not even a long time for them. After 3 weeks, I usually have to keep calling them and calling them, and then they start to get the message. I've never had a claim with them, that'll be the next test. Like others have said, it can take over a month for it to get processed (that seems consistent with my other experiences with them)

Thanks guys im planning on going with them in Jan. Thanks for the info.

Do they cover your gear if you rent it and someone rents it under a valid cert.but false identity? Didn't someone here on refused get burned by that?

Joseph Hutson
12-29-2011, 01:04 AM
I use them due to other REDuser friends using them and suggesting me to do the same.

I agree, they are difficult to get a hold of. Probably because with so many good experiences and recommendations they stay busy? :)

Difficulty in making contact is certainly not a quality I'd want in an insurance agent/company. Would I want to wait 3 weeks+ were I to make a claim?

Yeah, you want to be able to get a hold of your agent quickly if need be.

I'll look elsewhere.

I have my cart insured through them. I was getting additional insurance to cover renting gear from somewhere else and I had an agents direct line, had no problem getting ahold of them.

Haven't tried lately and that was in February last year. I'll have to give them a call about renewal soon anyways. I'll see how it goes.

that's my concern with insuremyequipment.com as well.

What's important when getting a policy is who actually provides the insurance itself, not the "front". They used to have Fireman's Fund doing it and I know 2 people submitting claims for Epics via Fireman's and the claims were legit and quickly processed without any BS. Now, it's no longer Fireman's Fund but One Beacon. I dont know why, I heard because fireman's fund possibly stopped doing equipment floater as it wasn't a good business for them? I found horrible reviews on OneBeacon online, however they were reviews for different kinds of insurance. I have not found anyone camera-related submitting and getting a legitimate claim through One Beacon yet either online in general or on this forum.

I agree 100% that insuremyequipment.com is great in their initial setup in todays day & age: it's perfect - you go to a website, fill out your stuff easily & quickly and you have your policy. This part is A+. But using web technologies building the front & generating forms is an easy part. But as far as coming through on the policy is yet to be seen.

It seems that most just go with them because it's pretty much the only web portal convenient / quick / easy to use and aimed at the camera-gear people and because most are with them already (without claims though)

Heffernan recommended them as well.

I'm still looking myself and skipped this one for now. I also reached out to my wells fargo rep in LA for insurance options, and they said that anything solid for coverage of about $100k and up will run >$3k per year. policies are different if you rent your gear separately, without you working with it on the job.

Heffernan Insurance, www.insuremyrentals.com, never answers their phone for even routine questions. I cancelled my insurance with Heffernan Insurance, I would be scared to file a claim with them.

They are just the broker. You file the claim and they will forward it to an underwriter. Heffernan do not participate on the claim process.

Firemans Fund is the former underwriter. Heffernan is the Insurance brooker.

How much are you guys paying south of the boarder for a policy? Anyone know a good carrier in Canada. I'm looking at 40k worth for all my gear I take with me on trips.

Tom, sorry to hear about that... glad to hear it got sorted out.

4 Pages of posting and only a few companies with none jumping out as first rate. Can anyone else chime in on this thread with some reputable insurance company's.

Do you want an insurance company in the city you are in? LA for me? Or does that not matter much?

I gotta pick up the phone and call my agent. Not very often, but when I do, I usually need a reliable answer quickly. There are a lot of picky details and gotchas in this world and the correct information is essential. This ain't liability insurance for your auto.

Haven't filled a claim yet - and hope I never have to. I've been pretty satisfied with Williams, Turner & Mathis here in Atlanta. I'd at least look into them if you're in Georgia.

Will, tried to send you a PM but you're full.

I'm using insuremyequipment.com, and have a broker named Ken McCormick who is almost too fast in his response time. I asked to have my Scarlet serial added when it shipped, and he responded with a revised spreadsheet in less than 2 minutes. Haven't had to file a claim yet but I'm very happy with the coverages and service.

Just to be clear;

www.insuremyequipment.com, www.insuremyrentals.com, www.buymyinsurancenow.com, www.Insuremyliabilityonline.com are websites from the same company: The internet business division of Heffernan Insurance Brokers www.heffins.com

Heffernan is NOT an insurance company, the actual insurance company you will be dealing with your claims is One Beacon Insurance Company www.onebeacon.com

Does $420 per year sound about right for $30,000 in coverage? Just making sure I filled out the forms right, since the rate seemed low to me. I filed as an individual, but I think they assume you use your gear for commercial purposes?

Yes. I think mine is $1,750 for 135,000 of gear per year.

$420 is about right for YOUR EQUIPMENT. But if you're renting it's not going to cover you for Conversion which is when someone rents it with a stolen identity. You NEED that if you are renting your gear out to strangers. And it's going to cost you more like $1500.

About to find out (unfortunately). See my other post about the 50mm Zeiss. Getting repair quotes this week and, if as head banging as expected, will be filing on our existing plan with these guys right after. Really hate having to go through this and not happy my first/only claim is on a piece of legacy rental glass.

I've had the insurance with insuremyequipment.com but I am considering Hill and Usher, http://www.packagechoice.com/index.jsp#htwms

I haven't had a claim with insuremyequipment.com but for my package it's a $750 deductible per claim and I might be wrong but if I have a lens dropped and the accidental damage comes to $500 bucks for the repair on a lens that issay $1,000 then I have to pay $750 before anything kicks in. And if it's a gear bag or low cost item it's really worthless as nothing kicks in to pay unless it's over $750 worth of gear.

If they steal all your gear for a total loss, then you pay $750 and they'll cover up to the total amount you insure it for, but you have to have a total loss.

So you may want to insure all your more expensive items, EPICX Brain, LCD screen, lenses over $5K, side handle, for this policy from insuremyequipment.com to be of any value except for total loss.

Haven't got a quote from http://www.packagechoice.com/index.jsp#htwms yet, but I'm requesting a quote today. Wondering what their deductable is on smaller valued items and if it's a good company. I've heard of them before but never bought from them.
