Do you mean like a Raid or a desktop drive or what? Or network storage?

My guess is that it all depends on what kind of input connection or format you need. If you just want storage space out in the field, the cheapest solution is to buy an external hard drive hooked up to your laptop running off a car inverter or equivalent. If you need to dump P2 cards or Compact Flash or whatever and you want to do it right by the camera (without a labtop) then that same storage suddenly becomes a lot more expensive and specialized. So I guess you would need to say what you intend to use this for.

i have both the hyper drive with a 160gig drive in it & the nexto 2525 with a 160gig .... the nexto is a little faster to copy and full verify a 8 gig card ( it is a 2 step process - while the hyper drive is one step to copy & verify)..
both are suppose to take 250gig drives ( maybe larger ?) ....
both units had to be returned because they didn't work properly ... both replacements have been trouble free ...
also the hyper drive will take several different kinds of cards - the nexto only takes CF ...

I just tested the Hyperdrive Space with the Red CF. It takes about 10 minutes do download. The strange thing is that during copy the progress bar doesn't move and the unit seems to have frozen. But after ten minutes the "copy successful" message appears and the data is on the internal drive.

By the way, the data is being checked during copy.

I think this is a very useful device.

I've used the Hyperdrive SPACE for over a year. It's a great product even though it's been superseded by two newer models, only one of which is available here in the states, that have color screens and advanced data recovery functions.

I did the Dec firmware upgrade, and it works fine with me with 8GB Red CF card. I've got the 250GB colorspace. Love it.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your unit if you are having trouble. The last firmware update for the Hyperdrive SPACE added functionality for the Lexar UDMA cards among other things. If you know you're using a UDMA card, setting it to the fastest setting should optimize copying and verification time.
