P.S. Why are some people only specifically wishing merry christmas to the Red team and to reservation holders? Are we others who will be renting Red not worthy? :)

An open letter to Jim Jannard and the RED Team Merry Christmas! and a Happy New Year. Its been a wild year, and just want to thank you Jim for your vision and following your guts.

The Red Team, thank you also for having the guts to follow a guy with a vision. It must have been hard in the beginning when all you had was an idea and the thought that it was possible to build something that everyone in the industry said couldn't be done.

Jim thank you for keeping us (the reservation holders and the user group) in the loop. It has been a wild ride and I look forward to the day when I receive my own RED ONE camera (sometime in Jan or Feb). I feel like I've been given a rare opportunity. One that requires a great deal of responsibility, because all of the excuses have been taken away. I can't say anymore that the equipment is holding me back from my vision.

The next few years should reap an incredible stream of great movies shot on the best digital cinema camera in the world. It will be fun to see how the industry reacts to them. How do you notify a whole industry that there is no reason to use film anymore, we have something better. Will we still call it "shooting a film", but for how long? What is the new term. "Shooting a DI", "Shooting a Digital Film", or will we keep "Shooting a Film". How about "Shooting a Red One" or "Shooting a 4K". It really doesn't matter because the process is pretty much the same. The only thing that is really changing is the MEDIA.

So again I say thanks for rocking my world

Hey Ace, didn't realise you are also in Sydney. It's surprising what one sees when one opens one's eyes.

How good is it living in the best city on earth.

Yes we're neighbours! Sydney is the best. Yeah, most people say their city is the best (eg. Melbourbunanites) but when we say it, we mean it. And were a cynical bunch to boot. There could be a lot more action though. I miss the undulating fear of getting shot that I get when visiting other countries which shall remain nameless..

By the way I was in Melbourne a week ago, what is it with Melbourne people saying its better than Sydney? I copped that wherever I went!

As the Christmas day draws to an end, I finally have a little time to sit and read. To all my RED brothers and sisters and the RED Team, I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I feel very blessed being in this business and to know you are all there with me in the RED World. I can't wait until I have my camera and footage to share with you. Thanks again Jim and the RED Team.

Indeed it is, taken from the balcony of where I worked until recently. It's a suburb of Tokyo called Takashimadaira but I've recently moved across the river to Kawaguchi (for those of you who know Japan!). My last home was Sydney too, so I know where you're coming from, though you'll be hard pressed to pull me away from Tokyo as I've totally fallen in love with the place!

Can't wait to do this kind of stuff in motion, especially timelapse!

Cheers,

Paul

If you look at it on balance Melbourne is not as visually appealing but more of the people there are friendly and chilled. Sydney on the other hand is stunning to look at but there are A LOT of wankers here - more than most places I have been to combined. If Sydney wasn't so damned picturesque then Melbourne would easily take its title.

But in keeping with the topic of the thread....Merry Christmas!

Woah I missed this thread. Having come from Melbourne most recently myself Blue and a former resident of Sydney - have to agree with you on Melbourne. They are now saying that on current population growth Melbourne will be Australias most populated city by 2020.

Nice pic BTW Paul. Should catch up soon - Ive been pretty busy and spending all my time on a doco atm. But, Ill be heading back to Australias sunny shores in a few months. Bought a new house on the nice end (dont throw anything please anyone) of the Gold Coast, Hope Island just behind the studios, which is rented until end of April. So thats when Ill go back, just before Golden week. Would love to come have a look at your red of course when you get it, maybe you can hook up with Kaku san and do a demo at his studio (assuming its not rented til the next century).

I plan to do a demo with Kaku once I get the camera so of course let's hook up and go over the camera in detail.

I'll email offlist once I organise it.

Cheers,

Paul
