This is IMPORTANT. It is a complete sensor calibration and needs to be done. Early cameras with Build 12 will NOT LOOK RIGHT if this hasn't been done.

It will take about 6 minutes and needs to be done with the body cap ON or the lens cap ON (no light to the sensor).

Take the time to do this with Build 12. You'll be happy you did.

Also note: Do not go back to a build earlier than build 12 if you've done a black level compensation on build 12 (or later).

Good point Deanan... in other words, if your thinking of going to 12, you need to commit to it. If not, wait till it (or above) gets approved to the "stable" category.

if you upgrade to build 12 and dont do a black level adjustment, then yes the difference will be very noticeable.

As with most builds, beta or not, advancing forward usually gives you better images, features and/or usability.

Also, per the directions, you must have a formatted CF card in - otherwise it will "hang" and you will have to yank the power out and start over.

Hi Jim.

Is this something you just do once, once build 12 is installed? Do you do it again ever, like in each new build, or is that TBD on future builds?

IOW, if I am using a rental camera, build 12 or above, and I ask the owner "did you do the black level thing?" and they say yes, am I set for good? Or is there any harm in doing it again to be sure?

So is there direction somewhere on how to actually carry out a Black Level Compensation?

Cheers,
Mark.

Do the cameras shipping now and ready to ship already have build 12 installed?
