Great news! And thanks for the awesome dedication to getting the PL mount perfected, as well as all the improvements and the new build. Can't wait to get my hands on my camera. Can you update the shipping schedule for the next couple of months? Would really like to see where 1545 falls in the schedule! :)

Daniel (and everyone in #101-#300) -

About 10 days ago, we sent an email to all RED ONE reservation holders with initial "get ready, your camera is coming" details. Later today, we plan to send out a "we are shipping #101-#300, the sooner you pay, the sooner we can start processing your order" email. Both emails have lists of what you have on order in our system.

If for some reason, you did NOT get this initial email from RED, please contact us at orders@red.com. As you can imagine, we are getting a ton of emails these days so please be patient as we get through each one as quickly as possible.

Thanks, BC

I don't mean to harp again, but will the rest of us get an updated shipping schedule? With the start of this next 200, are we looking at a month to month shipping or do you anticipate more beta-test delays?

mezmo
12-27-2007, 04:05 PM
With this number of cameras delivered 1-300, beta testing
should stop here IMHO. Otherwise if Red has to go back to the shop on a regular basis it's not a viable system for professional use.
Let's hope this is the end of Red beta and the start of 'Red Better Best'.
If this is the case, well done all on the Red team and the very best for
New Year.

Dear Red team,

I believe the last posted schedule looked like this:

Serial numbers 1-50 Delivered
Serial numbers 51-100 Begins October 15th (50 units)
Serial numbers 101-200 Begins October 30th (100 units)
Serial numbers 201- 600 Begins November 30th (400 units)
Serial numbers 601- 1100 Begins December 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 1101- 1600 Begins January 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 1601- 2200 Begins February 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 2201- 2700 Begins March 30th (500 units)
Serial numbers 2701- 3400 Begins April 30th (700 units)
Serial numbers 3401- 4100 Begins May 30th (700 units)

Obviously a lot has changed since this was posted, and we know you guys are busting your butts to get cameras out the door, but could we please see an updated schedule along these lines, factoring in all current production realities?

I don't think anyone will hold your collective feet to the fire if it varies a bit, we'd just like to get a current snapshot for those with camera orders beyond the first 300. It would help those of us running businesses.

Thanks!

Jannard
12-27-2007, 09:06 PM
We expect to get production up to 400 cameras for January and 500-600 February on. 700 units by May.

That is a rough schedule. We have been late in the past so we are hesitant to post a firm schedule and be late again. But this is what we are thinking- today.

Hmm... time to start transferring money around and refining our accessory selections, it looks like. Hope #404 doesn't show up too far ahead of our Birger mount. Though we can always rent PL lenses in the interim, I guess.

Jim, any hint on what the timing is going to be like on those 400 January cameras? Is it going to be 100 a week, or one big shipment toward the end of the month, or what?

So best case scenario, that would be:

#'s 200-600 delivered in January
#'s 600-1200 delivered in February
#'s 1200-1800 delivered in March
#'s 1800-2400 delivered in April

#'s 1800-2400 delivered in April
#'s 2400-3100 delivered in May

This is very optimistic speculation :weight_lift:
If you look back they were always delays on the estimated delivery.
I would say: that the #2000 will be reached by May only.
Hope I am wrong...

#'s 1800-2400 delivered in April

Since you are talking best case scenario.... you should start with 301-700 january and work from there, since "technically" it seems 101-300 are shipping before new years (for those who were home to check mail and had time to go to the bank...)

A revised BEST CASE scenario "let´s pray and HOPE shipping schedule" would then read:
#'s 301-600 delivered in January
#'s 701-1300 delivered in February
#'s 1301-1900 delivered in March
#'s 1901-2500 delivered in April
#'s 2501-3300 delivered in May

Anyway, Jim said 400 cams are going to be out in January, and we start from #300 right? So, it means the first 100 replaced plus other 300 and we are up to #600 (and i'm fucked...)

Come on, #100-#300 aren't shipping in the next two days and it's not a payment issue, it's a logistics one. It's more like a few dozen cameras at best then #100-#300 will go out the first week or two of January.

The real question is how stable #1-100x and #100-300 turn out to be. If it's all rock solid then you'll see those other optimistic numbers come to fruitition.

I have 150% confidence in their work, so no slight against them, I just know that sometimes getting everything just right can take longer. Sometimes the last 20% takes 80% of the time, which really monkeys your deadlines...

Eirik Tyrihjel
12-28-2007, 12:20 PM
It doesn´t really matter what anyone thinks (but it´s part of the fun), we will know soon enough, and the wait will be well worth it I am sure!

I am just adding to speculation.

(I thought I did state in my post that it was based on optimism gone extreme)

Thanks Sanjin, although I noticed a small typo in my original post, I meant NO slight against them. Sometimes the last 20% really does take 80% of the work. I've had this happen repeatedly in engineering projects I've been part of.

If Red is guilty of anything, it's over-optimism, and that's ultimately a good thing.

Yes, some good info there (sound is inside R3D, and available only via quicktime so far). I was just trying to get Tonaci's feedback, since he posted here today. He teased us several days ago with photos of his newly-arrived Red #102 http://redmodz.com/component/content/article/1-latest-news/60-red-102-has-landed
but to my knowledge, so far he has not said a word about operating it. Of course we've had other reports from other people, but he is apparently the first one to take delivery of the new body.

So for those of you who have their cameras already- have you tried out the new feature (sound)? How do you get the sound out, does Red Alert or Redcine export a WAV for you from the R3D? Does it show up already as a separate file on the CF card?

REDCINE and RED ALERT do not have any audio features yet. For now you'll have to work with the QuickTime files. Keep in mind that the audio feature is a beta implementation....

Anyone get an EVF or a Red Drive in their delivery? Just curious... if not, it's got to be soon now, right?
Also, does Build 12 allow multiple outputs (EVF, RedLCD, 720 preview)
Cheers,
Harry

Received my email invoice "amount due" and payment instructions today. Funds were wire transfered today as well. Curious to see how soon shipping works out. #271.

Craig,

Could you post here when you receive your #271 so that we have a better estimate of the delivery schedule?

Thanks,

Derek

We just received the boxes! I can't believe the day is really here. It's been a great ride so far- and it's just getting started!

Thanks to Everyone at Red- Hopefully you can forgive me for all the times I called and emailed to bug you about when our camera was showing up.

The hardest question now is- will be what will we name her?

You've prompted me to think along those same lines... was originally thinking RED Sombrero for one, and then Chapeau for the other. But got to looking at the numbers relative to events of the years the numbers represent, and am now leaning toward "TREATY" for 1783 (treaty that ended the Revolutionary War between the U.S. and Great Britain,) and "SPANISH FLU" for 1918, which was the year the outbreak of that killer strain was most noted for.

And since we are currently in the middle of the "age of dispersion" (of oestrogen-mimicking organo-phosphates and chemical pthalates as well) I will be referring to my two as "ITs" since everything will eventually become uni-sexed.)

edit: by the way, I know RED is not led-free, but how about LEAD free? Is it safe to hang out with?

Wow! even though the quantity is limited, you would have some exotic choices for names based on year. My personal preference would be "Aunt Agnes".:w00t:

edit: just realized my mistake... that said Saint Agnes instead of Aunt Agnes. Doesn't have the same ring to it.
