Hey guys!
Just did another test.
Black and White with film grain added.
Lights were a 200w Pepper and a 650 Soft light with a lamp lighting the background.
We didn't have access to many lights at the time, so made due with what we had.
So here it is. If you want to r3d, send me an email and ill try to send it to you!

Hey Michael,
Test looks great! Appreciate you sharing, as it helps solidify Scarlets capabilities and potential for those waiting to get their hands on one. Not to mention that it supplies a "fix" to us jonesing for footage! .....I guess that makes you a dealer ;)

Hey Michael,
Well this is my first post on REDUSER and its to say thanks Michael. I gotta tell you, between you and Tonaci, you guys have been keeping me excited every day. I have a ways to go till I get mine I'm sure, but seeing you get the enjoyment out of it that youre getting and being as generous as you are is making the wait all worth while. Thanks again Michael. You've been great with your updates. I'm finding the RED community to be quite a special place.
Best,
-John

Thanks John!
Im really glad you enjoy it! They may not be the highest quality of videos or drop dead beautiful, but I am only 21, and am definitely still learning. I don't want anyone to think that I think my stuff is amazing.
It's just fun. :)

Forget the good-looking black and white, the expressions and skin tones make this the most "human" MX footage I've seen in a while...
fashion/commercial weekdays, music video/short film weekends, makes me forget about expressive naturalistic shoots like this...
this is the rare kind of test where you forget about the specs posted at the beginning and just enjoy the work.

Is film grain added in redcine or elsewhere? the noise has a great look... black and white digital grain actually looks organic not forced

If 120FPS is not enabled - what is the highest effective frame rate available on the Scarlet today? Can you test it with something that is action based? Something worth slowing down?
Thanks!

2k @ 60fps, currently.
I'd like to see them enable somewhere in the area of 96fps (or whatever the max is) at 720p... bit more useful that 1k

I would love a 96fps at 2k.
That would make my day.

Remember they have to have a defining element that separates the two cameras... even if they could enable more than HDRx at 4K 24 fps, even if say 96 at 2K were possible, the question is would Red (and every Epic owner) have a vested interest in that upgrade...
probably not. but then I wouldn't put it past Red to announce new, even higher frame rate possibilities for Epic simultaneously. Except that there is a vast visual difference between 60 and 96 on Scarlet compared to say, 120 and 156 on Epic, despite identical technical difficulties.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there an in-camera 2.35:1 / 2.39:1 option enabled? Or is that post only? Red One eventually got the 4.5K wide upgrade...

There's not 2:39:1
I wish though.

Michael, im reading page 95 of the scarlet x manual, it states "Title Guide and Action Guide can be set to your own preferences through User Settings. Available options are Aspect Ratio and Scale"

yeah. that would be awesome, but i'm almost sure the scarlet can't handle it... though, at higher levels of compression...
there was a discussion about this, jim was pretty firmly convinced that the specs were what they were, and they were giving us everything the camera could give. that being said, i would like something between 1k and 2k that maximizes the potential framerates. also, it would be nice to have some options for academy sized or extreme widescreen shooting.

those are framing guides (title safe/action safe), not recording sizes.

I understand but couldn't one use those as guides for framing the 2:35:1 for post

Of course, but you can't actually record in that aspect ratio.

But what if we could? After all that's how 5K 120 fps came to the Epic, through 2.35....
you need so much light for 120 fps that I could live with much higher compression. anyone at Red know if this is possible?

It would be cool if they enabled that, but it's wishful thinking at this point.

Red loves its users, i'm sure if its possible this can be enabled somehow.

I don't understand the mouse and cookie thing but thanks? :/I lol
And no its not. Sadly. :/
If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. He'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache, and then he'll ask for a pair of scissors to give himself a trim.. it's an old children's story about never being satisfied. I was going to ask for a 1k 120fps shot if possible. Too bad it isn't possible yet..
Has anyone posted HDRx video samples from the scarlet?
