All else (CPU, RAM etc.) being equal, which one of these would you choose for a laptop you were going to run Resolve 8 (Windows) on?

1) Nvidia GTX 560M with 3 GB of GPU RAM
2) Nvidia GTX 570M with 1.5 GB of GPU RAM

The 560M is roughly 20% slower in 3D Mark benchmarks, but would larger RAM even the scales any?

Thanks for your feedback.

Generally, if you are going to be rendering a lot of 4K/5K, the more GPU RAM would be useful to have.

How about a Quadro 2000M? Will it perform better than GTX 500Ms?

Thank you, Rohit. Let's assume I'm using the Lite version and therefore limited to 1080p: which one would be the better choice in that case? I suppose 1.5GB of VRAM would not be such a bottleneck then.

Quadro 2000M has approx. half of processing power of the GTX 570M.

Same situation with GTX 580 and Quadro 5000 on the desktops (GTX 580 is twice as powerful as Quadro 5000 on single precision flops) - yet the configuration guide clearly specifies that Quadro 5000 performs better than GTX 580 on Resolve. By extension, the Quadro 2000M may be faster than a GTX 570M too. It is quite possible Resolve utilizes double precision or other functions accelerated by Quadro drivers.

The Thinkpad W520 is an incredible machine, by the way, and exactly why I was asking about Quadro 2000M. For serious grading, something like an HP Dreamcolor Elitebook could be the best option.

Found a nice German company who builds laptops to order. As I'm not made of money, I settled for a nice low-cost configuration. Intel Core i7-2760QM CPU with 16GB of RAM, Nvidia GTX 570M with 3GB of VRAM, 17.3" Full HD matte display, an SSD for boot and a 500GB HDD for other data + a Blu-ray burner.

1696 Euros incl. 19% VAT and shipping. I think that's a very reasonable price for such a system. Should be good enough for Resolve 8 Lite (in my use) :)

Nice - wonder if it would run Mac OS as well ;)
