I know this question is slightly vague, but how is this card, or any other Blackmagic DeckLink/Intensity card for that matter, useful to someone who shoots in 2D and uses REDMAG SSDs in a RED EPIC/Scarlet workflow?

for most faster your work you need red rocket

If you are a Resolve user, it will allow you to output to a broadcast monitor for color correction. It also allows you to ingest and layoff to and from different decks should you need it.

I'm not sure what you are asking, so I'll try a few random thoughts...
It has nothing to do one way or the other with RED SSDs.
It'll play 2D material just fine. No need for 3D. But if at some time in the future....
Are you really asking why someone using a file-based workflow needs a "capture" card? If that's the question, the answer is for the video monitoring output. The capture functions (like the 3D functions in your case) just don't get used. But computer monitors are lousy reference for grading video, and the Decklink cards give you a good-quality video output.

Exactly. :)
That's what I thought, so I suppose the only use it would be of to me would be for the monitoring output.

If I have a RedRocket card while running Resolve will it function in the same way, not only for Debayer, but for outputting to a broadcast monitor for Color Correction as well?

No. The only software that can use the Rocket for outputting to a broadcast monitor is RedCine.

So does the Rocket get used at all when working in Davinci? Say I have a Rocket and a BM card.

I would think that the Rocket's processing power would be used for decoding the RED footage. It just can't output to an external monitor.

I'm not sure, but the Lite version of Resolve is also limited to 1 GPU. You may have to upgrade in order to utilize it. Surely someone more learned can step in and give us a definitive answer.

That's correct. The Lite version only supports one GPU. It also has support for a maximum of one RED Rocket card. The full version supports multiple GPUs and RED Rockets, however. http://blackmagic-design.com/products/davinciresolve/compare/ (http://blackmagic-design.com/products/davinciresolve/compare/\)

Really? So you can have a RR but can only output HD SDI to a grading monitor through RCX?
So I need a RR + AJA Kona 3 or BM card?

If you plan on using resolve you better use a bm card. That said i read that some one where running it with a kona 3 card. But i dont think it is official supported. Check it before you get a kona 3.

Rocket handles debayer for resolve- monitoring goes through the Decklink card. Render is handled by the gpu, so it's best to have a good one separate from the one that handles the GUI. In a mac, You run out of slots pretty fast. Go to blackmagic's site and download their config guide.

So the 3D extreme card isn't really needed unless you need the 3D features and connectivity right? For monitoring the cheaper Decklink cards should be more than enough no? Or do the better cards offer processing power?

The Resolve configuration guide used to say that you needed the 3D Extreme card but now also supports their new Decklink 4K. Haven't tried to run Resolve without it. Have the 3D card in both my home office workstation and on-set systems and it has been flawless. Realtime playback with RR, HDSDI and HDMI outputs with all sorts of inputs if I need them. Well supported by CS6 as well.
