Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone coukd give me any adivice on this:
I just got my Sliding Top Handle (it got here erllier them my scarlet) but it seens to be backwards. As you can see in the atached picture, my top handle along side with RED's Website.
Dou know how do I turn it backwards to the right position? Also, I would like to know how dou you remove the round front bit, sou you can atach the touchscreen monitor to the front treads.
Thanks very much!

The two parts either side of the riser just screw in - they're tight but perfectly possible to remove and screw in from opposing sides. You'll probably need a wrench for the rosette side, but the rubber hand grip should be feasible by hand.
For what its worth I re arranged mine to the orientation yours is, as the kip handle doesn't get in the way of your grasp of the handle then.

Mine came that way too. From what I understand, RED began doing this a little while ago.

Thanls very much for your replay John.
I've tried very hard to unscrew both parts but I could'nt, is really tight, I've even used a Wrench, but I guess I'll just keep trying.
I would prefer to use mine in the "correct" position, and also to remove the rosette side so I can atach my touch screen monitor to the front treads.
My best wishes

I managed to do it . Pour hot water over the main centre bit and gave it a few whacks to losen the the grip.

As mentioned, RED started shipping the Top Handle "backwards" some time ago. While it appears to be backwards, it's now officially configured that way to avoid accidently engaging the kip handle which could cause the camera to slide off.
With some effort and the right tools, it is possible to re-configure it back to the original design.

It's a lot easier to unscrew if you attach the sliding handle to something. I use one bolt to connect my arri dovetail to the 1/4" holes on the sides of the handle, then I held the dovetail in a vice while unscrewing the grip. Alternatively I suppose you could just connect the swat rail to something and mount the handle to it instead.

I managed to do it, as I said it was very tight, but with the help of a wrench it got done (tough it got scratches a little bit) thanks a lot for tour help guys!

I have had no luck and have been at it for days. Mine is getting tons of scratches. I've ran it under hot water, several other RED users have tried it as well...no luck... I think mine came glued.
I'm trying to do this to keep it from touching my battery plate and pushing against my brick, and prevent spending 200 bucks on something just to lift it off the camera enough.

Yea mine came like that too. I don't see a problem with this current config . it seems like it would work better.

I've got the same problem. Then, it's impossible to attach the lcd screen. Too bad. So I have a scarlet, a rail, a sliding top handle, and the lcd monitor. What's the solution to attach all these elements together?
Would the "easy plate" from wooden camera work to put the lcd and sliding top handle together?

I don't get why it's still said on red store that the sliding handle has 15 mounting points. There is 3 totally unusable ones, and 3 useless ones with the new design. And changing the position of the 2 sides of the handle is not recommended by Red and will void the warranty.

You could also get a 150mm nato rail and a nato clamp for the monitor and you can put the handle and monitor on the same rail.
Also, I don't think that voiding the warranty on a handle is a big deal.

Heyo,
I don't see why you would want to "fix it" back to the way it is shown on the website. People were having problems with the original design. A friend of mine accidentally dropped the EPIC brain due to the original design. He was immediately assisted and taken care of by RED.
To my knowledge, since then, the way you received yor unit is the way they've been shipping the new design.
I have mine in the latest design and it's much much better in my opinion than the earlier units I had experience with.

I like the wooden camera safety nato as it has spring loaded ends that keep the handle or whatever you attach to it from accidentally sliding off.

I just attached my SWAT Rail directly onto the camera with 2 mounting screws, I attatched the LCD directly to the side HAndle at the TOP using 1 mounting screw , then you just slide the top handle onto the SWAT rail when you want to mount the Handle / LCD combo. Check out the pic

Mine is set up the same way. Except I took the back cap off the handle so my VF plate would fit.

Chad and Jeffrey,
What length SWAT rail did you use?

Webster, looks like they are using the 100mm.

Brent thanks for the reply.
This is one of the options that I have been thinking of doing.
But I may also want a side handle (left side). Also, what are people doing if they want the LCD more to the side?

Chad and Jeffrey,

Yes I'm using the 100mm. The only thing I'm upset about with it, I'm thankful for the safety reasons but the length interferes with the VF battery plate. Where as before the design did not. If you plan on using a plate with the tophandle it would be good to get some kind of riser on top of the camera to lift up the top handle. Maybe it's only a problem with the VF plate, not sure but I just screwed the back cap off for the time being as I couldn't get the rosette off. I'll be picking up the WC mount top plate at some point in time, which will allow me to put the back cap back on.
I've also contemplated the outrigger handle but I don't feel I'd use it to much until I had my sidehandle, which are still in backorder. Which is the reason I went with the tophandle for the time being.

I would say the outrigger handle or something similar. Also there is the good old arm that you can use. There is also the spinner mount, and i believe a few other companies offer similar options. From what I understand, the cable what comes with the LCD is not long enough so you'll have to get a longer one to mount more to the side.

Thanks for the info Jeffrey. I am still waiting for the Scarlet and Sidehandle. I will be getting additional accessories, when I figure out what they are.

No problem. Thats kind of how I approached it. I started so that I could shoot. Now I'm starting to add on as I need too.

If your concerned about the handle sliding off Wooden camera do a great Safety Nato rail with stops on it to prevent kit sliding off the rail. Reds stuff is great, no disrespect the but the safety button on Wooden camera rail is a good move.
The main issue with the handle is it fouls tall V loc bricks if mounted on the back of the camera

Robert, just saw a pic of a rig that used the Spinner with Bomb EVF mount, Looks promising.
Thanks.
