Welcome! the shipping is supposed to pick up, and they made our most recent deadline- I'm thinking late 2008 assuming everything goes well with this next batch.

I just put down my deposit this morning. Anyone know the rules governing Sales tax? If I live in CA and ship to AZ do I have to pay sales tax up front?
Thx

Makes me sweat hearing you are waiting for over a year. We want to start production in Summer and I was expecting something like half a year until delivery.

I mast give you same hope here! I have given my deposit for the Red when the Red cam was only a prototype-just started... As you might know actual production has began somewhere in late summer 2007 My wild guess is that right now all process has been adapted to mass produce them So keep your fingers crossed ...You might have your camera on time!!!

I'd expect 6-8 months as delivery timeframe.
But same rules as always:
1. everything is subject to change, including the delivery schedule
2. don't plan a shoot on a camera you don't have.
cheers

RED shipped everything FedEx 2-day. There were no options on shipping because the deadline was tight. I'm not sure if they will keep that policy or not, but I was ready to fly to CA to pick it up if that's what it took.

Thanks for the info. It's a good thing you didn't pick it up. It would of cost you an additional 8.85% in CA sales tax.
I guess I'll be moving to AZ...

you dont have to pay sales tax in AZ but you may have to pay a Use Tax at the end of the year. Check with your accountant. I know in Ca, the use tax is the same as the sales tax.

On our first feature about 12 years ago, we had all the film shipped to a friend in Vegas on a common carrier- about $400 in shipping. We got an unbelievable deal on the stock, and still saved well over a thousand dollars. (The film cost more than a Red One body.)
Of course, if I'd spent that same amount of time and effort re-writing the third act, I might have actually earned some money with the film! Just got a guild foreign residuals check for about $10.
In CA there's a 5% tax break for post production equipment, if you're in the post production business. The seller has a form. Not sure how that could be applied to production equipment, but might be worth exploring.

Don't tell me you're one of the 3 people in Europe who's seen it? Spend a lot of time in Spanish video stores? The Baltic states perhaps. (More likely you have access to IMDB.com)

If I were you I would plan on renting the camera for your shoot, then if you are able to buy one first, more power to you.
