Hi, Iv'e just received my Scarlett x a few days ago and noticed in testing that when I use HDR at 3K the maximum frame rate offered is 24fps as i'm in Australia a pal country I need 25. The Scarlet specs indicate that 25fps should be available.
Am I missing something?
Cheers

It's odd that the specs would say that because the max frame rate for 3K is 48fps. It's the only frame rate that doesn't have a 2:1 normal vs. HDR ratio. Maybe it's not available yet?

I presume it's an error in the manual?
As all HRDx's are half of the chosen max framerate.

In which case, half of 48 is 24. Perhaps the manual needs clarification? Guess you'll have to stick with features John:-)

No, I'm pretty sure that they intentionally stated 25 fps HDR. John, have you tried holding the frame rate and entering 25 with the numeric keypad? I know you can get the epic to something like 303 FPS by doing that. I'll try it on Sunday night if I have time.

Thanks Andrew.
Not sure how to hold the frame rate I tried using the enter key on the side handle (I don't have a touch screen at the moment) but no luck.

Right, I wouldn't know how to do it with the side handle. I'm sorry I can't test it myself at the moment. Maybe someone else cold give it a try?
I do hope that it is possible, shooting HDRx at 3K was one of the reasons I decided to order a Scarlet. RED posted that spec in too many places for it just to be a typo. I'm sure that if it isn't currently possible, RED will be working to enable it in a future version of the firmware.

Fingers crossed. I was hoping to do 3K HDRx at 25fps as well.

48 fps max @ 3K means 24 fps HDRX not 25 unless you could shoot at 50 fps in the normal mode.

Try setting your project frame rate to 25fps in the settings menu.I'll try it after lunch.Expanded menu options can be opened by holding your finger down on a parameter on the touch screen or by using the D-Pad down button on the side handle.Heh heh he said D-Pad.

I just heard from Red, "At this time, the Scarlet is only able to shoot up to 48fps, that unfortunately means only a maximum of 24fps with HDRx."
So it's the spec sheet that is wrong. Don't know what to make of that. HDR does work at 2K.
Well.. thats pretty bad for PAL countries....
25 and 50 are pretty important frame rates.

That's really unfortunate to hear as I'm in a PAL country as well. This essentially means no HDRX for PAL users. On a positive note John, they said "At this time..." which means it will be possible in the future? Are they planning on it? Or will it never be possible?

I'm not sure, but going on Reds past history I'm optimistic. Remember it works at 2K which is still pretty cool.

I too have noticed the "discrepancy?" in the specs in the past between the 48fps in 3k and 25fps HDRX in 3k and have wondered why its not 50fps in 3k instead. I never thought it would be the other way around with no 25fps HDRX in 3k.
Here's to hoping its not a technical limitation in the camera that will limit it from doing 25fps HDRX in 3k.

If Your earlier shot on film or Varycam You must know as interpret 24fps to 25 fps ( PAL ) ... about 4 % faster , but no visible ... Absolutely no problem .... :001_tt2:

This is what I was thinking Malk. I'm sure they'll give us 25 as soon as they can, till then it can be worked around.
Um... it is a problem. A serious problem.
24 is of course feature film perfect frame rate.
If you are in a PAL country 25 and 50 are the required frame rates.
TVCs and TV shows for our markets must be shot at 25 / 50.
NTSC based shooters with no PAL experience are not really qualified at all to comment on this.

The issue is the same for NTSC owners - they can't shoot 30fps in 3K and have HDRx.
You can shoot 24P with HDRx and shoot 24P/25P/30P (or varible up to 48) without.
In terms of no HDRx, but higher fps, there's no 50 option for Pal and no 60 option for NTSC.
Who knows if this will change over time?
Hopefully someone from Red can address this?
I plan on using my Scarlet for television production. 25 and 50fps is critical for this.
It would be a major oversight if the camera is limited to theatrical frame rates only.
