View Full Version : just a few facts Pre NAB?

Maybe Jim can squash some speculation about Scarlet without giving it all away pre NAB.
“Pocket Professional [not prosumer] Digital Cinema Moving picture camera.”
Jim has confirmed that it is a Moving Picture camera, and well the name on the front page of Red says “Digital Cinema Camera”.
So we can speculate 1080p, 16mm min, 4k max. (Leaning to 2k, 24p)
With a Pro way to record said images onto camera (CF seems likely)
It has been said that it will not have a fixed lens. (Not by Jim)
So could we get a small hint on what we may need to use camera day one?
C-Mount would fit into the Idea “Pocket”
Now a bigger question:
Will Scarlet be just a Nab promotional/Limited run camera, or will it become part of the RED camera production line for years to come?
He has said RED won’t be taking reservations for the camera.
I think just a few facts Pre NAB could help us just a tad.
Thoughts?

LOL
Gotcha
It would be nice to know, at the least, if the thing is designed to function as a camcorder, and will be in direct competition with the leading $<10K offerings from the companies we know and love (or not).
Or, even more plainly, is it a camera you can and should shoot a low budget or no-budget movie with -- instead, say, of an EX1 or an HV200 or (for that matter) an HV20 or a DVX100B? Or is it something else?

I am pretty damn sure they are enjoying everyone speculating. Including the competition.
I sincerely DOUBT you will get any more facts before NAB - why spoil all that ... anticipation.
I think it would be a RIOT if it was all "dis-information" and they unveiled a completely different product ...

Well, in all, even if it's like a Pocket Cam (HV20ish) I'm still gonna get one.
Considering that the HV20 + Adapter is enough to make a great straight-to-dvd, you can only consider that the RED version's gonna be that much better.
To NAB I fly.

Big companies usually never reveal anything until the product is actually unveiled. But small comapnies can afford to float this kind of speculation to get some publicity.
Using common sense logic, I can only theorise that any new camera RED comes up with will be similar to the ones already available from some other manufacturer. Because RED does not manufacture anything themselves. They do not have the facilities or technologies to do that. They will have to get it made probably in china according to their specs. That is what most computer companies like DELL do. But, pretty soon the mystery will be solved we will all know what the product looks like.

An HV20-sized camera that doesn't NEED an adapter for 35mm lenses... that would be awesome.

There sure was. You just have to watch the zapruder film, and then go back to your grade one physics textbook after watching the head recoil to understand that there was a conspiracy to kill this president....

Will I be at NAB. No.. Why? No use, people can speculate.
Will I show at a Red tent for it , No.
Can this change, yes, more info.

Oh no, this load of bollocks has reached this forum! it had to happen. Study the film again.
See Connelly's right jacket lapel flap as the bullet passes through his chest just as the car emerges from the freeway sign. See the complete lack of an exit wound at the back of JFK's head. See the extent of the exit wound at the right front of JFK's head. Conspiracy or not, the shots came from behind!

Kind of sums up the whole Scarlet forum,
We speculate, but have no clue.
