I'm looking for a small (65 sq. ft. - 200 sq. ft.) office/loft either in Hollywood or on the Westside in LA to store my RED equipment, do light post work with RED footage (backing up days' footage,) and meet clients. Ideally it would be in the $300/month range.

I've seen a few posts on Craigslist - some shared space situations, some subleases.

Does anyone know where else to look for low-end office rental space? Most of the listings sites appear to just handle big-time offices in towers.

The coolest thing would be to find a space that has good shared resources - other creatives in the building, meeting rooms, mini-soundstage...

agreed! Let me know if you run into something as I'm looking for a mini-soundstage/machine room as well. I wasn't having much luck, so I broadened the search to include Calabasas, Westlake & Thousand Oaks as well.

I wonder how many of us it would take to actually create a "rental share" situation with a building with a stage and offices.... hmmmm.....? Then rent to outside parties and split the profit on that perhaps covering our own rent.

Culver City is the best area for larger spaces on the Westside. I used to share a building with a bunch of guys in Santa Monica and that worked out great because there was always someone there 24/7 which kept the place safe for equipment. However Santa Monica is very tight on available spaces.

Nice concept Mark...

Also on the market to rent small suite in the NYC area if anyone has any suggestions, need a new home for my RED, gear, and apple edit station. Dumbo has been great but rents are going through roof and from my experience a shared space is more economic and can benefit both parties with extra room...ie green screen, sound stage etc. HIGH security would be a priority as well.

Best of Luck in LA Alexis.

I may have found something. It's startlingly cheap, so as long as their isn't a glitch in the listing, I'll try to check it out on Monday. It's on the Westside.

Too bad I haven't got a greencard man. ;)

It was a listing error.

I know I've been in small offices that couldn't rent for much more than $200 a month... I just don't see those kinds of spaces listed anywhere.

Of course it depends on location...anywhere from 1-4$ Dollars per foot per month....65'-250' May be more like a temporary storage room or Garage...
The group rental would be better 3 or 4 people in on a larger space.

a 10x10x10 storage unit is about 200 a month at this point in time - remember real estate had a huge boom and rents have increased. But, that said, you never know - check craigslist as well.

My thought about a group rent was because I was actually looking to buy a building at one point with the intention of making it a production oriented rental share with a decent sized studio being the focal point and many offices for various companies.

However, I just got too busy with directing and producing to consider one more big project like this - so my next thought here was if you had 10 people who needed regular access to an office and stage - what would the cost be of a group rental. When I have a chance, I might split out the economics and put up an actual proposal. Finding the location is always the tough part and $200 / month would really only be an option in that scenario in a room share situation I'm pretty sure.

I'm sort of in the same boat. Have thought about buying - renting and subletting, etc... but it all seems like a distraction. There's no way I'd buy anything for at least a year now anyway with the market tanking.

Craigslist certainly seems like the best place to look, and I have... there are some shared opportunities that reach $400 ish. LA still has a bunch of 60's - 70's office buildings that slum lords divvied up back in the day to rent out cheap... these are the places I've seen, but I imagine the turnover is slow.

I'm going to go the route of finding a place that's more expensive than I can afford and subletting. I want to know if anyone here is interested and if so, at what price and location (in LA.)

My goal is to find a space that's 300 - 500 sq. ft. for less than $800/month. I'd consider subletting to 1 or 2 others, breaking down the price to hopefully around $200 each. The added bonus if Red owners are sharing the space, is any sort of mutual agreement about equipment sharing.

I'm considering Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Silverlake, Mid-City, and Downtown. Ideally, it would be a sort of warehouse/office hybrid.

This would be a space for equipment storage, meeting clients, doing post-production work, etc. for those of us with living quarters a bit to cramped to do any of the above.
