Someone please slap me. This has to be some kind of bad dream. So let me get this straight, Extremely Loud, The Help and War Horse all get Best Picture Nominations but Drive, Tinker Taylor and Dragon Tattoo don't. Extremely Loud has a 48% on Rotten while Drive has a 93%, Tinker has a 84% and Dragon has an 87%. Albert Brooks gets nothing. Michael Fassbenber gets nothing. Michael Shannon gets nothing. Yep, I'm still asleep. Oh, the humanity!

Seriously, Drive, the best film of the year (IMO) doesn't even crack the top 10. I think I know why the industry is dying.

The Academy has been out to lunch for decades.

Having said that, I'm stoked to see that Malick got some love, and I feel confident that this is finally Chivo's year for Cinematography.

Also stoked to see Danfung Dennis's "Hell and Back Again" nominated for Doc!! Danfung is just a dude who picked up a 5D and headed to Afghanistan. It's really exciting to see someone actually do this. He won Sundance documentary, too.

Chivo will surely win this year. Apart from acting, Hugo has been nominated for everything. Otherwise, mostly standard, predictable, "safe" nominations.

I dunno. I think there's some very good pictures nominated this year.

It's kind of a moot point -- I'll bet you dollars to donuts that The Artist will win. And I'm glad that Hugo picked up a lot of nominations; I hope more people will be inclined to see it, so maybe it can eventually break even.
