Sorry if this was addressed already but why on some Reds do I see the readout showing that the camera is on AC Power when it is in fact on battery? How can you tell how much battery life is left on a Red One? Thanks!

I have this same problem, not sure what it is but you might want to give Sean at Red a call and see if they've figured it out.

If it's anything other than a RED BRICK, it won't show the battery percentage. Most batteries have an onboard status display.
If it is a RED BRICK on a RED battery mount and it's not communicating, give RED a call. I've seen this issue on a few cameras.
Edit: damn, Evin wins this round.

This is why I love this forum. Expert advice and answers in seconds, this time from two moderators and two Red Ninjas no less.
Wonder how many others have this problem...

The battery cable or cable extension may not have the wiring that communicates the battery status.

same issue here and NOT on all our RED BRICKS - just SOME of them - and I think it changed when camera firmware changed - will test some more today -

Also have the same problem. Using Red batteries and cable from the Red battery cradle.
Was told that a reload of Build 12 (followed by the Black Shading Calibration of course) may solve this issue. Will try this tonight and report back.
Anyone already do this?

Reloaded Build 12 today. Camera still indicating AC Power even when on battery. Not entirely a big deal of course, perhaps on a future firmware upgrade this will be resolved.
On another note, the firmware upgrade went without problem but on the power cycle following the Black Shading Calibration the Status Display Window on the back of the camera came up with a kind of black snow with no legible characters to speak of. Output to the Red LCD was fine, just nothing on the Status Display. Powercycled the camera again to restore and did the Black Shading Calibration once more just in case...

#199 went back to Red and now is tip top, showing battery status perfectly. Turned out to be a power board issue, one day fix. Brain and Sean at Red were total pros. Talk about service.

Hey Evin, thanks for the head's up. I wonder if it is a power board issue on my camera now... I will call Sean or Randy first thing tomorrow. Thanks!
