No problem with wing nuts yet - once I figured out they were spring loaded and ratcheted it made life easier. I did see where RED suggests using washers with them but as far as I can tell mine didn't come with any. I've learned with working on cars and torque wrenches that a little force goes a long way. I used to over crank everything and broke a lot of bolts in my day - lol.

Check on the "Rods Questions" thread in the Red One forum... there are 2 15mm specifications - the adaptor is the "lightweight" spec. Arri stuff requires the Arri baseplate.

Have not broken any wing nuts- although I got a message from Red support mentioning using a washer with every wing nut- only problem is I didn't get any washers.

cant you just go down to a hardware shop and buy some?

but for $20 per wing nut, i can see why you would assume they would be included if you are told to use them.

i broke a wingnut and it broke off inside a handle. red sent me a new handle the next day. i have learned like craig though that you dont have to crank that much. however my wingnut that broke had snapped before i even started to really tighten it down..

i have learned that all my wingnuts can basically be just turned a half revolution and be loose enough to adjust or take things out, and then to lock it down solid i just turn it back another half a revolution (aproximately), you dont have to tighten that much at all, they are pretty sweet.

i'm finding the broken ones are breaking where the inside is hollow (into the area with approx 6-7 threads near the wing nut head ) ...

you do have to tighen enough that the rails do not pull out of the bottm/top mounts and you have to tighten the universal mount that holds the handle mount for your hand grips ( and the hand grips) so it doesn't slide when tilting 90 degrees down ...
had a local camera rental tech get the broken pieces out of the universal mounts, hand grips ...

i just got washers for the wing nuts maybe that will help ...will certainly keep the wing nut head from digging into the metal on the mounts ??

I've only broken wingnuts on the RED handheld grips. Since they slip when they're tight, logic says to tighten them even more. Unfortunately, that logic leads to many a snapped wingnut.

As Cinewalt said, the RED 15mm adapter adapts 19mm rods to 15mm rods at 60mm centered spacing - the "lightweight," "video," and "irritating" standard. The last time Arri played with the 60mm spacing on a camera was in the SR days, to my knowledge. I'm probably wrong on that one.

If you want to use 15mm offset accessories [the west coast standard], buy the Element Technica 15mm offset base plate. They also make top mounts with 15mm rods as well... and they make these super lightweight nickel-plated aluminum rods. And Arri dovetails. And Arri/O'Connor dual-dovetails. And a handheld system. And a BNC breakout box. And...
