I've searched and searched the forum for any mention on this.

I think I am stating the obvious when I say that the word RED at this moment in time cannot be said without thinking of the "join red" aka "(product)RED" campaign to get aids pills to those in need in South Africa. I have to admit that I feel a little guilty visiting this forum and the red.com site without seeing any mention of this campaign or at least a pass through link for people searching for info on this. I am in no way suggesting that a portion of sales be directed towards this campaign, just possibly a pass through link to the joinred.com site. I only say this because recently I was talking to someone (a real estate broker) about my #41 RedOne when astonishingly enough they had already heard about my camera because they were searching for info on the (product)RED campaign and had initially came up with the red.com site by accident.

If this campaign was a flash in the pan idea or a campaign not worthy of our time, I wouldn't bother posting this, but I think we all know that it is worthy.

Is there any way to include a link and/or any info on the product(red) campaign on the red.com site? Maybe even something more creative that could benefit both entities? If I am out of line (I know that this is a very touchy subject), then I apologize.

I don't know if you're "out of line" superiormeat, but I appreciate seeing somebody with an active global consciousness make a worthwhile suggestion!

so quickly moved to off topic.

Thanks Brainstorm.

I was a little torn about posting this here at reduser. I realize that it is consumer products that are contibuting to this effort... But when you've got the RED.COM url... Every day when I leave my office there's a GAP across the street in Studio City that has had the RED campaign in all of it's windows since late last year. Of course, I automatically think of my forthcoming camera... I don't shop at the Gap. But maybe a little pass through? A little mention? I dunno...

Really it can only help red by supporting such a movement, and in return help the independent filmmaker. Its all a mater of how Red feels about supporting it...

I moved the thread not because I disagree with your idea but because it isn't specifically related to the camera. It was moved quickly because I happened to be on the forums when you posted it.

Hey, I'm all for supporting the cause, but I don't think RED should feel obligated just because they are RED.COM. And it is primarily a consumer product effort, I'm not so sure how Jim or the RED team would even participate outside of buying more product(red) stuff themselves, unless they just want to donate a lump sum.

As for GAP, I think that's one retailer that has gone way overboard. Then again a lot of their customers are just loving that they can be inspi(red), desi(red) or even reti(red). Hey, why not get product(red) on board with NBC and The Apprentice? Then every week millions could tune in to watch Trump say You're fi(red)! Product(red) is a good campaign, but it has its own scope and market. If everyone jumps on board, that may seem like a good thing, initially it could be, but in the end it just wears thin and if over-commercialized, the meaning is lost along with care and concern of future participants.

What may be appropriate is a little button at the bottom of the website saying "Are you looking for product red? Click here" to steer extra traffic towards their website which would otherwise be lost. Kind of like the old firefox catching page.

Hey Brook!

I wasn't upset that it was moved - just surprised that it moved quickly. You're right - Definitely not a camera related post... I don't regularly check the "off topic" section.
