anyone know the best place to get a clear/uv filter for the red zoom?

You want a 72mm filter, not a 114mm one. The diameter of the lens hood is 114mm, but the threaded ring is 72.
You can find a UV filter at any decent local camera store, or online at a place like Adorama.

so there are no threads on the 114mm part then?
do you have a 72mm filter on your zoom?

There are threads, but it would require a larger, more expensive piece of glass and be more prone to being scratched.
I have B+W uv filters on all of my lenses to keep them protected (I use a 72mm on the 18-50 RED glass). The B+Ws are expensive but are pretty reknown for being the best out there. They're made of bronze, so they're stronger than aluminum and resist binding to your lens. The coatings are also treated to withstand regular cleaning, whereas lesser filters can wear down more easily. That being said, you don't need a triple coated super flare protective one - just something that's going to keep your $6,000 lens from getting scratched. Most of the popular brands will do you just fine.
