We have a lead programmer working full-time on an application we are calling REDTOOLS - this is an internal project that will do LOTS of very cool things.

We passed our first milestone and our current plan is to show a working proof of concept to Red and Apple and few other folks in mid Feb. -

What happens after that depends on many things - but the app does XML parsing, importing and exporting and MUCH more -

Until then - I am going to try to keep my mouth shut - but we are building it every day - and it's CRAZY COOL -

by internal project do you mean only off hollywood and clients can use it? or that its being developed internally for everyone to use when its done. and will it cost money.

No specific details until Feb 8th. - assuming the REDCINE team locks in their XML spec in the next two weeks.

Trying to get as many features working as possible before we let anyone see it.
I'll be in LA to demo it for the Red gang and some other folks in mid March.
But let's just say ... I am pretty damn excited about it -

ps - we will be changing the name

Any chance of you coming to the LA Users meeting that Adobeone is setting up on March 15th? I'd love to see what you have! I believe Luki will be there demoing scratch as well.

I'm not sure. I heard Finner was going to be there, and man would I love to get Curt, ET and even Birger there!

You'd be a huge draw and with you, Luke and Action Products I'm sure we can draw the rest!

Hey please record it!!!
i am a little bit far away as to arrive in time. Damn teletransportation will not get implemented until build XX.
Or at least make some photos!!!!
Think about us poor lucky bastards that live in Europe.
Offhollywood don´t make us suffer us much as we do with RED.

Mark,
any news about RedTools (or whatever it's called now) ?
Did I miss something, or haven't we heard anything since february ?
Is it still in the works ? Are you still planing to release it to the masses ?

Nils.

To be 100% honest, I am not sure.

The fact is, the more I learn about the BUSINESS of software - the more turned off I get about it.

People want it for free and customer support is an issue.

When you code a tool to use "in house" - you don't need to make documentation, training videos, and build a support web forum.

But so much of this (Red related workflow tools) is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. RedLine opens the door WIDE for cool, simple tools that will save you hundreds of hours.

Lee, the programmer who coded a very basic "proof of concept" with us, had to jump onto a three month project with a big company that made him an offer he could not refuse (and I couldn't match) - but that is about to end and Offhollywood will need to decide if we are going to proceed with a Red-related "tool set" software product.

Ironically, an old friend pretty well know in the "digital" business saw Lee demo a build of the software a while back and just asked me if I was interested in a financial partner to proceed with the project. So ... I am going to pursue that offer and meet with Lee asap.

But ... let's just say we have some tricks up our sleeve and some cool hacks and tools we use at the shop - so, we just may surprise everyone ...

Ok Mark, I understand.

The pitch for your software sounded really cool, so I sure do hope you will finish and release it. I'm sure a lot of people would be very happy to pay a fair price to get it.

Thanks,
Nils.

After doing months of work, we could not afford to financially support the programmer full-time - and we assumed that someone(s) would make solutions - it is something I very much regret to this day - as nobody really stepped in and nailed this.

I've developed a friendship with Ian Bloom, creator of Crimson Workflow - I have tremendeous respect for his brain - and I have harassed him with "utility" features to ADD into his application. Ian has been rebuilding his entire program with a different, flexible "foundation" - it's extremely clever.

Crimson 1.0 - when released - will have most everything I wanted to do with "redtools" ... and more.
