when you don't have the camera it is very easy to accept taking a file into Redcine and rendering out to whatever codec you need to edit ...
when you get the camera and you take a file into Redcine and hit render - you tend to get tired of waiting for that file to render ...
and while that file is rendering you can walk over to your other Mac take the QT proxy ( that camera produced) and be editing in FCP 6 ...

TIME is very important ...
what is the best time ( what system) one could render from a RED 4k raw to 12bit cineform 444 QT ? ( for Pc'ers - then how long to convert that QT to a AVI) ????

ok with the proxys you can edit, but they are not good enough for finishing...

rest of the worklow:
possibility 1:
you have to create a xml----translate it to redcine xml ( hopefully soon available)

ouput the dpx.

create an edl in fcp.
load this in color or ae, point your edl to the created dpx.
load and finish

possibility 2:
get your raid and the fcp edl to a scratch station and finish.

possibility 3:
import dpx with gluetools into fcp and finish fom here, if you want.
(btw. how does gluetools solve the 8 bit rgb limitation of fcp?)

with cineform you have your online format already.

color to support r3d files? dont know how and when, i dont believe in this 6 months thing.

I am not a MAC user I am PC.. For this reason the Cineform decision was a much easier one for me.

What I can tell you is the obvious.. Wait. I believe there will be a lot of important changes in both Cineform, and APPLE in the next 6 weeks alone.

I think this decision will get easier over time.
