Hey all-
Was wondering if there is the potential to power a MacBook Pro with a V-Mount battery for field shoots without AC available. Obviously this would be short term, but it would be nice to have a choice beyond the internal battery.

I'm thinking some sort of V-mount to DC/cigarette lighter outlet, then to a DC to MBP adapter or if necessary, 12VDC to 120VAC inverter then straight to the regular MBP charger. Thoughts? Am I totally crazy, or would this work?

I know it would be unwieldy, but if I did this, I'd built it in to a custom Pelican, so it would be somewhat self contained.
Thanks everyone!

-Harry

Thanks David. I did run across that Hawkwoods product but wasn't able to find any sorts of reviews or a place to actually buy it. Have you used that one or any other setup?
Thanks,

-Harry

I use one of these (http://www.iworkcase.com/epages/62303355.sf/en_US/?ViewObjectID=961774) and run my laptop all day. V lock would be damn convenient though...

Go to http://mikegyver.com/Store/

They sell off-the-shelf adapters with an Apple Magsafe plug, I bought one years ago.
It can be powered with 100-240v, 12v and from an airplane socket. It even has a 5v USB outlet.

I cut off the supplied 12v cigarette plug and replaced it with a 4 pin XLR power plug.
Now I could use whatever power I want: V-lock, Anton Bauer or any 12v Brick battery. Works like a charm!

Because I transport my V-lock batteries in carry-on anyway, they can easily power my Macbook for the entire flight - and then some.

I use tablet laptops for many hours in a day. And provides out standing service.

The Thinkpad X220 does a good 20-25 hours on one charge, never needed anything else and is very portable even with the slice.
