Well, in down in Colorado Springs there is me. Don't know of any others in the 'Springs, but imagine there might be more.

Know one other in Denver in the low 200's, and a couple other low numbers are reserved in Boulder by 42Productions.

Yep, Number 519 present. Golden/Denver
It's getting harder and harder to not go to NAB.

HAHA
Take the number of beers you can drink in one sitting then double it...and add some Irish whiskey, heck after that much booze you can probably take 519 out for a walk in it's stroller.:)

Last I checked, my #411 comes before Erik's #519, though I'd imagine that number will be only a few weeks later down the road.

Of course my friend at #232 trumps us all.

The people I know locally fall into two catagories... those that think to this day it's a giant hoax (or who are leveraged deep into $$$ Sony gear) and those that think it's a "keen idea" but wouldn't put up their own money.

I think theres a couple REDs between #100-200 going to Boulder, I can't recall who has them.

As for people I know that work with video/film, they're either deeply invested in Sony/Panasonic gear or they're still doing DV/HDV and can't quite make the jump yet. Actually most locals I know who are aware of RED think it's a hoax (like you said) or they don't want to put up the money.

Jim, Great to be here! Let me know with a quick note to my 42 Email if anything interesting is going on. I have a couple of pretty monster deadlines I am working through so do not have a lot of time to spend do fun stuff like this.

Also, happy to volunteer our theater for any screening of the RED flavor that people want to have... The bar has gone in since you were here last. ;-)

Hi Pete!

Looks like you'll be the first to see RED around these parts. I'm anxious to see your initial reviews/reports and anything else you're willing to share. :)

I know your question regarding modeling and animating satellites wasn't directed at me, but I've done some of that myself. I like modeling technical and mechanical objects... I haven't been too fond of all the NDAs and military clearance crap on a lot of that stuff, but it pays alright sometimes, I guess. :/

Hey Jim and Jeff,

I read your posts all the time. I feel like I already know you guys! Yup. I do know Jon, #232. I met Jeff Deel and worked with him when he was just a pup. He's come a LONG way since then. He does some good work.

It will be great to have fellow Red users nearby. We should get together sometime.

We will be throwing a Big Red unveiling at 42 Productions in July. When we have a more definitve delivery date, I will make sure you all get to come and play with the first CO Reds ahead of the Sony unbelievers. ;-)

Hello ColoradoRED,

Mammoth HD Footage Library (based in Evergreen)

Although Mammoth HD - hasn't ordered our RED yet, we will be later this year. But we are adding the infastructure for RED 4K as Mammoth HD should be the 1st stock footage agency with RED footage... with Steve Gibby sending material from REDOne#8 and our other RED talent... will be adding material as their cameras are delivered... including #'s 17, 296, 324, 392, 393, 700, 1394 and about a dozen others so far..... really looking forward to expanding the MHD library with RED 4K footage.....

hi pete: can you add me to your party list when you unveil your shiny new REDS? i'm hoping to have lots of reasons to rent your HD theater once my own cams arrive. i'd love to have a tour, if that's possible, with an eye towards future rentals, possibly for the DVD release party that we hope to be throwing in the fall. it sounds very nice.

Jerry here from the Colorado Film School... ours arrives in January don't know the number... but it's higher than I want it to be!

When someone gets one, I want them to let me know for sure. I'd love to show it and talk about it at the Denver Final Cut user's group... good press for all I'd think.

Tell Paul I said hi Pete... I think we've talked over the phone.

Good to see you here too Clark!

As far as that goes... I'd like to meet all of you guys!

Yes, let us know!

I'd like to take your cameras out for some serious cold testing somewhere up in the hills. ...Unless you're too nervous.

Anyway, hope you guys get those cameras soon. I'm anxious to hear reports of the new batch and how they work.

Sorry dudes, not loooking at reduser every minute of the day (but almost). We are sort of waiting by the phone at this point but no love yet.

Stand by for some fun posts, although we will be doing some serious R&D behind closed doors when they get here so no John Hughes parties at the shop (like, there will be no keg in the RED room, etc.).

We'll be thoroughly testing cold with #519, hopefully in just a couple weeks.

-- Erik, sorry to put you on the spot, but you know it's going to happen. I promise we'll keep the camera well cared for and only use it in a studio environment. I've got a new studio somewhere near Breckenridge. The views are magnificent and if you ever get tired of the view, you just load the gear back into the truck and drive across the street.

I haven't tested it in hot or cold situations....I've tested just about everything else though. I've had no problems with temperature so far, but it's been in moderate conditions. When I get a chance, I'll get it out in this nice cool weather we're having and let you know.

Owing to my Viking forebears, I'm nearly impervious to the cold. I can build, paint, dress and grip with the best of 'em, and the other Erik can vouch for my excellent taste in beer. Just in case any of you were wondering. :shifty:

Pete had Han out up in Fraiser in -20F blowing snow. Camera was a champ. Batteries even held up well. Also did a 1 hour time-lapse, outside in same conditions, no problems. These cams are killer!

Been in the basement for about three weeks now and heading out for first two days of a feature shoot this weekend. Keep y'all posted.

PS- Hi Jon and Jim (and of course Jeff). Give us a ring if you're ever in Boulder.

We were out on Pearl Street doing some tests with the new Steadi rig. Way cool! Shooting time-lapse speeder bike style down the middle of the mall.

Also some camera porn featuring Arri VP1. Lens is so good it will be hard to inter-cut with RED and Cooke glass. SCARY.

I'll post some stills from this coming weekend. Maybe some footy next week.

Hey, that's a nice ActionCam you're sportin' there. The Zero-G model too it seems. Have you had it long? I'll be getting my AC RED edition in a few weeks. How does the RED perform with the zero-G extension for going hi/low?

Paul Lee

Jeff- Pete's the guy to talk to, but he's happy about some fine Swiss engineering (they even put chocolate in the case). Excellent product. So good, in fact, that the pan bearings are almost too smooth! Like RED, very thoughtful and solid.

Last year, in conjunction with the Boulder Adventure Film Festival, I put together a panel of shooters to talk about shooting adventure/extreme sports/nature films. We called it the Outdoor Video Producers workshop.

We had a standing-room only crowd (70 people, all shooters of various skill levels, in the Carsen theater in the Dairy Center), and we featured an Everest shooter, a guy who shot an award-winning yachting doc, and Colorado's most successful Emmy-winning climbing film shooter. We heard some inspiring, amazing and funny shooting stories about shooting in extreme conditions. It was a first-of-its-kind event in Colorado, and we decided to put it on again this year...it is the lead-off event for the festival.

This year, so far, we have another Emmy-winning Everest guy and a local guy that shoots a Nat Geo series lined up for the panel.

To round out this group, I'm trying to see if any of you Colorado RED shooters would be interested in participating in the panel. It would be great if you could bring some sort of adventure-oriented footage (we are wide open on the subject matter and works-in-progress are fine...), talk about what you do, and bring a RED camera to display. I know there is a lot of interest in this camera in the local shooting community. We would need about 5 minutes of footage, and you would have about 10 minutes of talking time.

I could do this myself, of course, but I'm showcasing something else on the panel. It would be great to have a RED-specific conversation.

Panel is Nov. 13 at 6 pm--I know this is a little far out to schedule, but the marketing will actually begin in the spring, so we are taking names now.

If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail....it's a great way to participate in the only community-based event of its kind.
