View Full Version : Quiet...

It's been quiet on the front again...which we all know what that could possibly mean.

Keep up the good work RED Team. I'm crossing my fingers for the #813 delivery in the 3rd week of February.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed by this silence game RED is playing. RED seems to have gone from 'we'll tell you everything what's going on' to 'if we're not saying anything at least we're not saying anything wrong'.

Come on, Mr. Kamp. . .

. . . everyone frustrated by the delivery delays, but I'm convinced that RED REALLY IS doing everything they possible can to make the RED the best possible (rolling shutter) camera it can be.

I'm committed. . . what say the rest of ye?

I definitely appreciate your work guys! Having a camera less than perfect early on is much more frustrating than having to wait for it to reach perfection. Much like eating a cake before it's cooked. That could be "Good Eats" talking since I'm watching it as I type this! :sorcerer:

Sure the delays are frustrating but that is not what I am talking about. What I'm talking about is the lack of communication. I suppose they are busy making my camera now and I suppose it is still coming in January but with about 2 weeks to go in January there's still no official word. The only thing I have heard so far is from Jim saying about two weeks ago that he 'expects' my camera to be ready in January, which - let's be totally honest - in RED's case could mean anything.

It's my own money I am putting into this camera and I think I have the right to be annoyed. I would be even more with any other company than RED. I have been patient with RED because they were so open about what they were doing and it was exciting to be involved. But lately RED has been very cautious mentioning anything about developments and schedules, apparently so not to be pinned down on anything.

Please understand that I am travelling from the other side of the world to pick the camera up and that I need time here to prepare things. I have to talk to people, arrange things and so on. I can only do that if I am sure the camera is coming.

I don't think this is about being committed, really. I committed 1,5 years ago when I made a deposit for the camera and I have been patient with every delay there was.

A less than perfect camera is fine by me. If it turns on and records data I would rather have a camera now and be putting it to work. I'd take the updates and improvements as they come.

For those who may not know, they don't come any nicer, hard working or professional than Brain..... Another words your 'A' typical RED Team member.

And on a personal note I have to give Brian a BIG Thank You for work above and beyond, You Rock!

Thor, W/ RED in the house.... Awesome :-)

Let me state for the record as a early reservationist who's had his eye on RED from the beginning...

Team Red is Bringing it Everyday!

These guys work Loooooong days, weekends, holidays with the best attitude you will ever find.

It's my opinion they deserve our collective gratitude and support.

Yeah, what he said. Besides, everybody that has been watching this forum for any length of time knows that the RED Team always get quiet before they announce something cool. Don't know if they are intentionally whetting our appetites, or just plain too busy to take time to post. The result is the same either way. They get quiet, we get antsy, then Jim or Jarred announce something that blows our doors off. That's just the way it works.

Sander,

We (ie, Jon) have recently posted to the RED ONE FAQ's ( http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7464 ) with the most recent information we have. I have also tried to get more details out to the readers of REDUSER (feel free to search my recent posts) about communication from RED.

I hope that you will see that with people like Jim, Jarred, Brian and myself still trolling through REDUSER afterhours, we are living and breathing RED 24/7. We are doing as much as we can as quickly as we can.

If it is quiet, it simply means we don't have anything new or more concrete to tell you. if it is critical information, you will get an email from us or see it on RED.com, rest assured.

Thanks, BC

Brent, I totally respect what you guys are doing there and I believe you if you say you are working 24 hours a day to get everything done. Thank you for that. And I have to admit I missed the post in the FAQ, although it doesn't add much to what was already known.

In the forum I am reading cameras 100-300 are being delivered just now, while they were planned for end of December. And I am still waiting for an email for RED which should come no less than 2 weeks before delivery, with January just a little more than 2 weeks to go. So I am beginning to get worried about January delivery. Any word on when there will be an updated or more final schedule?

Let's see, the sticky was most recently updated on January 11. Today is the morning of the 15th.

What part of "We're shooting for getting 400 cameras out before month's end" do you not understand? Instead of accusing them of playing a "game," let these people do their jobs.

See what happens at the end of January--two more weeks--and then see how close they are to hitting their target estimates.

Less chatter and more cameras out the door is exactly what we want.

sander kamp
01-15-2008, 06:53 AM
My camera is in the next batch. So I should get an email with delivery and payment options 2 weeks before as stated by RED, that leaves just 2 days if they want to do that on the last day.

It was not my intention to accuse RED of playing games with their customers, maybe I should have expressed that differently.

Jonas Nyström
01-15-2008, 07:37 AM
Perhaps you (RED) could tell us how many cameras you will ship in january - then everyone could do their own estimates upon each serial number.

We send an email blast to a group of reservation holders to let them know to get ready to take delivery of their camera (ie, finalize accessories, give payment info, confirm contact info, show what is currently on order, etc). That is what went out to #101-#300 earlier. We start getting orders confirmed and payments in, we process orders, and ship as quickly as we can.

Soon, we will blast the next batch with their get ready email. By the end of this week, actually.

Here is Jon's FAQ thread with latest production plan comments from Jim:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7464

What Jim posted still applies. And are moving forward accordingly.

Hi Brent

Are EVF's shipping with this next batch, as I just want to get the EVF and have a HD lcd of my own already. If the EVF's are not yet ready do you have an estimate of approximately when they may be released?

Brent@RED
01-15-2008, 08:33 PM
This week, #301-#500 will get an email. As production ramps up (as is stated in Jim's post), we bite off bigger chunks with each blast to stay on pace with production schedule.

We are beginning to fulfill backorders on EVFs as we speak. They are in VERY limited quantities in January but come February, we will have more solid numbers. Until we catch up with the people who already have their cameras, EVFs won't ship concurrently with orders going out in the next few batches. They will be fulfilled in order of reservation number as soon as we can get them out the door. It may be a little after your camera package is delivered, but it won't be too far behind.

Some more good news, RED DRIVES will begin to ship this week as well.

So, we are fulfilling orders in line with Jim's posts, we are starting to get EVFs out the door, and RED DRIVES are about to start shipping, too.

To the people that guessed silence meant good news was coming, I would say this post qualifies :)

Yup, we are still working. We don't "sleep" at RED as much as we "nap". We do have a few more tweaks to make to the email template and code. We took in all the great (both positive and constructive) feedback from the #101-#300 group and really tried to make the email much more helpful and clear. We will keep working on it through the day and you (#301-#500) should definitely have emails from RED by the end of the day today (PT). Which would still keep me not breaking my "by the end of the week" promise :)

Rest assured, we are doing as much as we can, as quickly as we can across many departments: sales, accounting, tech support, QA, shipping, etc. Not one person at RED ever, truly takes a day off. It starts with Jim and trickles down through the rest of the team.
