Running Red Cine on XP.
I get no video whatsoever. Just black. Looks like I'm missing the codec, but the quicktime one is mac only, and as far as I know Redcine is the only thing that will open r3d files. It should come able to open them, but no luck.
From a glance around here I don't see any other threads about this, so does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

It might be helpful to list your computer's specs, and the software version numbers, service packs (windows version) and that sort of thing to help diagnose the problem.
Edit: Also, you might want to add your computer's info to this thread (click for link) (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5965), as it appears Rob and the team are asking for it.

Alright well I was about to update matters a bit but it seems you beat me to it. Thanks for the fast reply anyway. Turns out red cine thought I'd love it if it completely blacked out the area I'd be exporting. Kind of like a passepartout but backwards. At the top if I turn off "Color" the box becomes transparent. Any idea if that's the right colors any everything around it is gray or if it darkens the selection. Or am I the only one with this stupid black box?

It sounds like a graphics card issue. Redcine relies heavily on the GPU running openGL, and some cards are not as GL capable as others.
There's quite a long list of cards that do work, but many cards that are even just a couple of years old will not. On-board Intel graphics will not work, either, as reported frequently on this forum.
Welcome to the bleeding edge!

Okay, so under normal circumstances the video just shows up normally? This is really strange because I can see the video outside of the box when its smaller than the frame, and once I turn off 'color' I can see the picture through the box, in the program even in export, yet the thumbnails and the exported videos are solid black.

That sort of behaviour absolutely smells of openGL issues on your graphics card. Could be a driver problem - first thing to do is be sure you're on the very latest version. If that doesn't work I'd swap cards to something newer from Nvidia if on PC, Ati on Mac.

Updated my drives which did absolutely nothing for red cine. Its really not worth getting a new card, I'd get a whole new system at this point. I still find it horribly odd that my computer can read and display the video in its own special way, but cant do a thing with it. I give up for tonight, going to bed.

If you want working REDCINE on your PC, INSTALL newest NVIDIA card! I tried with many ATI cards, but without result!
ps: Also working with little bit older NVIDIA cards.

As Wade said, give us your system specs. I'm pretty sure your graphics card is not up to snuff.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ clocking around 2.2 GHz. 1 GB RAM. NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card 128MB.
I'm sure it's not really up to speed with what it should be, but I also don't think its too slow to function.
With color unchecked so I can see through the black area, I can watch it full frame rate in 720. I also tried 2k which didn't play anywhere near real time, but I wasn't expecting it to. Seriously, I don't care if I can play anything in real time on this computer, all I want is to be able to re-encode red footage to formats I can use composition/animation/editing applications.
