If the rumors are true, and this is not a clever photoshop mockup, Apple is about to unveil a 40" Cinema display capable of 3840 x 2400 for $2,999. Not quite 4K, but close enough.

I'm fairly sure this is fake. There was some article somewhere debunking it that I read earlier.

Since the gif shown at Dan C's link is supposed to be a screen shot from the Apple store, and when you go to the Apple store and build a customized Mac there is no 40" display option as is shown, I have to imagine that it's fake.
Conversely- if this is a product that has yet to be announced, it wouldn't be on the apple store site yet so where did the screen shot come from?

sometimes they make mistakes and put things up early, then realize and take them down.
the biggest example of this was the PowerMac G5 been put up in the store a couple of days before it was announced.

Fake. The picture of the MacBook Air is exactly the same as the MacBook on the Apple site, just made a little thinner at the bottom.

There's something in the air = Could that mean Apple and Google are finally releasing nationwide internet?

Well, there should be new displays. They haven't been updated in a long time and Apple stated that all displays would use LED as backlighting in 2007, which hasn't happened yet.

Fake. Whatever "ultraportable" Apple releases today, it won't have the MacBook's ugly-ass 1" bezel around the screen. Lazy Photoshop work -- they didn't even find a capital "S" with the same anti-aliasing as the adjacent letters. :)

If they do come out with a 4k monitor, just wait until NAB.

No New Monitor or faster macbook pro's.
Rather a disappointing Keynote from a RED point of view.
Maybe a good thing as I will be able to eat rather than upgrading my Mac's

Yeah, someone did it again with a clever fake. The Macbook thin does not have Dual DVI. I just loathe these people who have too much time on their hands and spread misinformation. They also faked the SSD drive capacities.

Well, I was wrong about the monitor bezel -- it looks somehow even thicker than the MacBook's!

New MacBook Pros are coming. Intel and Apple just haven't worked out the final product yet. They will be using the new 45nm mobile CPUs and there is a possibility of a quad-core MacBook Pro. Apple is going to take advantage of Intel's new mobile platforms for all of their mobile devices including the iPhone line.

Since Apple just upgraded their Mac Pros, there was no chance of new display upgrades at the show. They would have been introduced along with the Mac Pros.
Hopefully we'll see something at NAB.
I like the MacBook Air, but it's certainly not a filmmaker's computer.

There was a rumor I saw about some big apple announcement at tomorrow nights Final cut user group meeting at Macworld, maybe even something involving Red.
http://www.lafcpug.org/macworld_08.html
But now that I see the schedule, I have my doubts: Two apple guys are speaking, first one about new Mac Pros and Final cut pro (so, what, maybe a monitor there? I doubt it) and the second is talking about "Evaluating Codecs" (so maybe full navite support of Red Code? but I doubt that, too, as immediately following him is a guy from Sony talking about XDCam on the EX1)
4K displays would be amazing. I wonder if the high end Quadra card could technically drive one?
So, maybe we'll have to wait until a bigger event--maybe NAB. But I really hate for them to delay new monitors so long because I'd hate to buy a new 30 inch cinema display a week before announcing a new one, or a new rumored 3K 40" or even a 4K display.

4K displays will need more than the current Dual DVI-I spec, which can only drive 3840 x 2400, so that means with the high-end Quadro, you can only drive 2 of these. The spec will have to be upgraded to a triple or quad link, or increasing the data transmission rate to a new backward-compatible spec.

dual link DVI-I not spoken here. The VESA group upgrade the displayport 1.0 to 1.2 with a single link capable of a minimun of 3850x2400 and i wonder why the refresh rate wasn't bump to 240 hz for ultra smooth motion.

Nvidia was waiting for this ratification including the adoption of mini displayport as new standard to finish the Quattro fx 5800 specs.Apple openCL will rock the industry.

If it's not being reported on MacRumors.com, it is most likely fake.
