The solid state/flash drives are in my opinion what will win over hesitant producers from switching off tape or film base workflows. I will be buying at least one red drive but will be switching to solid state as soon as price and size works.

160GB solid state? Sheesh, that is awesome. But the writing speeds don't seem that fast.
This might be a stupid question, but would there be any way to rig something like that -- if it had faster writing speeds -- to the RED's data port and body so you could record RAW uncompressed high FPS footage coming out of the port straight to a high-capacity, solid-state drive like this? I guess this particular drive is way off in terms of speed, though, huh?

What I like most on this solid state stuff is its durability, lightness and low energy consumption.

But - price is extreme high ($80-$115 per gigabyte)

The most important thing is that they are being made. Prices drop sharply with memory so I am not to worried about the high price right now.

And the Adtron guys are really pioneering the whole NAND FLASH tech with these drives. NAND is going to be huge and prices will drop like crazy over the next couple years. 10 years from now, magnetic platter hard drives will probably in the same category as VHS tape. People will still use them and no one will be entirely sure why.

That's a real bargain compared to Panasonic P2 cards! Panny still thinks P2 media demands $143/GB! :angry03: But I suppose it does with their current production model. With current production lines, they can barely keep up with demand for the HVX200 and other P2 cameras. P2 is the biggest success their broadcast division has had for any product, ever. And with their current production rate on 8GB P2 media, they can barely fill demand there, charging these prices... Sad. They could revolutionize the industry if they get off their butts and start shipping 32GB cards for less than $500, but they obviously prefer the trickle-ware business model.
