View Full Version : RED.com Website: Cameras & Accessories Content Updates...
Ryan Erwin
01-16-2008, 02:14 AM
FYI-
The RED.com/cameras section and the RED.com/accessories sections have both been refreshed with some better content.
For those still trying to decide on their final configuration before ordering, I'm hopeful you'll find the accessories section update especially useful.
The Cameras section also includes a full page on Workflow that you should take a look at: RED.com/cameras/workflow
If you have any suggestions, or notice any errors, feel free to post right here or PM me.

Hi Ryan,
I ask few times to Red Technical support to update the information concerning the 18-50 Red lens.
On the website, the information concerning the "Diagonal Angle of View for 30mm Image Circle" are the same for the 18-50 and the 50-150 lens (so there is a mistake).
I really need this info. Hope you will be able to give me some answers and update the website.
Thanks

Ryan, at RED.com/cameras/workflow, it specifies "FCP version 6.0.2, running under Mac OSX 10.4.11 (Tiger)." Is Leopard not yet supported? That's would be a problem for those who have ordered the new Quad Core Mac Pros.

try it. might still work.
Others running REDcine under leopard ? There must be someone who could not resist to upgrade.

BobEdot-
Yes - Leopard is not officially supported yet, but we're working on it and it should be there soon as long as you've got 2GB RAM and a Kona Card for video output (otherwise you get choppy playback...).
Once we've got official Leopard support, we'll update the accessories page (and probably post on REDUSER ;-) )

Hi,
It's not a mistake, the image both lenses produce is a 30mm circle, that covers the RED sensor.

Thanks a lot, really useful.
Just a little question:
There is a way to buy directly the accessories available via the web store without the 10% step? (I mean pay the whole price -including shipping costs-, with a credit card, and then just wait...).
For all of us that have already bought (and received) the camera, this will be a great thing. My cameras are on the go, but I'm already thinking about some new spare batteries and CF...
Thanks, Elcurado.

I'm currently testing Redcine under Leopard (Octo 3Ghz Intel, 8 Giga RAM, Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme, ATI X1900XT).
It's running fine, no problem at all, good playback, rendering... same as Tiger (not tested, my guess).
Hoping this will be helpful.

I'm not sure of the top of my head, but I've also put in a email to some of the guys who might know better than I. The Lens section is also due for a refresh - so I hope to include details like that :-)
Stay tuned!

No - not yet, but that is also in the works.
The "product detail page" will have to include an option for:
- Buy this now
- Buy this with my RED ONE Camera
Probably can just keep it that simple...
Obviously need to get online Order Status more transparent for you guys too :-)

Nikon mount is in development. We just got the PL mount where we want it so we'll need some time to shift over mount development focus. One mount at a time :)

Hey Ryan,
Having made an order a while ago and having tried to tweak it a touch, what would be great with the store would be
a) Be able to select a "show all" menu option so that you can see all the available items, that way you can go through them to check off you've got all you need and not have dupe items in different menus (as there are now)
b) set up the store to allow logins to see your purchase history
Cheers, love the new updates and think the image of the camera is very nice too! The workflow stuff is very clear also

I vote for this!
Plus be able to save "shopping cart" under login
Keep going Ryan, it's nice!

Ryan,
My suggestion is too have more technical data on the site about various parts, such as measurements and threading, even CAD drawings with front and side views, threading, etc.

If you want to make it easy to order, you should have a list for every set-up photographed. Listing every part used for the configuration. The whole RED-rail, RED-grip, cheeseplate-this and Arri-this is pretty tough to get on top of, especially if you havenīt seen the camera in person and/or been on this forum every day for the past two years...

Listing the adapters (e.g. mini-XLR to XLR), spares and all the available stuff would be helpful for orders. If you don't check Reduser daily and even so you don't know everything that is available at RED. Mailing back and force is painful and not all Emails are answered. ;-)
Ryan, what about listing the missing stuff here (sticky?) in this thread till the RED store get's updated?!!
Cheers!

Can you put a little button somewhere on the shopping cart to hide/minimise it? The computer that I mainly web browse on has a pretty small screen, and the cart really eats up screen space.

First off, thanks guys for all of your comments. Keep 'em coming :-)
E.T.A. on the "Buy this now" vs/ "Place Deposit" feature is NEXT Weekend (2/2)
The emails that go out when your RED ONE is nearly ready do contain a detailed order summary, but we're still a little ways out from online Order Status and Online Change Orders. We're working on both - but it will be a little while yet.
IBLOOM --- Yes, product descriptions in the store are mostly *MISSING* --- This is being fixed ASAP.
Luis & Erik --- With RED being sooo flexible, don't think we could shoot *EVERY* setup... However, an "Example Configurations" section has been in the works for a long time now and I'm hopeful that it will also be ready around NEXT weekend. Wish us luck!
Steven Gentle --- I agree 1000% about the fuglyness of the current cart... We modeled it after the Mac OS X Dock, which seemed really cool at the time, but in hindsight isn't such a great use of real-estate... The updated version has been photoshopped out for quite a while, but still need to find time for the implementation phase.
dalemccready & NiCKSON --- Nothing in the works just yet for a VIEW ALL or for a SAVE YOUR CART screen, but both good ideas. We'll see :-)
HAMLET et. all. --- We've also got something in the works to keep the store catalog more in-sync with overall inventory. The store should basically represent what we're taking orders for right now. If something is missing, we need to fix it.
Khristian --- Sorry... Jim said I'm banned from playing with firearms, so not sure what's up with the RED-GUN - only Jarred gets to do that...

Ryan, what kinds of adapters (e.g. mini-XLR to XLR), spares (e.g. CF-module) or cables can be ordered right now?
I already asked this by mail but no response. I have to place my definitive order today and it makes sense to include adapters/spares/cables in my package now.

Hamlet-
Quite a few accessories are already available in the RED.com/store "Accessories" section.
http://www.red.com/store/show_by_tags/Accessories
I could be mistaken, but I don't think you'll want to order a spare "CF Module" on the camera... It's a pretty beefy unit. Just take a careful look at the accessories recommendations at the end of the "Your RED ONE is nearly ready to ship" email.
Make sure you've got enough CF Cards to meet your needs, get some extra bolt kits, and take a look at those badass Wing Nuts :-)
Hope that helps!

Could you please also post a EFP/ENG lite weight configuration with the weight for the total package? The RED handles, shoulder mount, 15mm rails and other accessories would be helpful along with the weight of each accessory. There are many RED owners that plan to use RED for EFP and this would be a great help. Thanks!

Good to see the store getting better. I second the idea of personal accounts to see history and current backorders. Also payment in full option should be standard on all items in stock. Even those on backorder.
Very glad to see Apple and Red collaborating for better workflows. I was a very happy and proficient Sonic Foundry Vegas user. Incredibly intuitive program, fast and everything plays without rendering! Then Sony bought it and made improvements.
But when Panny came out with P2 and the HVX, Sony offered NO SUPPORT of the mxf files (Sony makes their own...like no other). Three years later and still nothing. You have to buy codecs and workarounds. So I switched to FCP. Sad to have to leave but goes to show you where their allegiance to customers lies. I guess they see Panny as a competitor across the board.

Yes, there is a light weight configuration demonstration that is in the works... Great idea to include the weight too - that's good info to have! Note the lightest weight config wouldn't need a shoulder mount -- just a top mount. I'm hopeful it will be ready for the live website this weekend...
Vincelucero-
The full payment option is also looking on target for this coming weekend... Note that this option will *only* be available for clients who have already accepted delivery of a RED ONE camera body.
Online account history is still in the works... No date just yet though. Got to make sure everything else is handled before making any promises :-)
