Evin and other knowledgeable people,

Thank you for your great input, Evin in particular, this Lens Tests forum is an incredible tool. I'm building myself a set of Nikon lenses for my future Red. I've already found a 17-35, a 50 f/1.4 AI, and a 105 f/2.5 AI. I'm still looking for an 85, a 135 and a 180. My budget being somewhat limited, Evin having often recommended two versions of same length lenses (such as 105mm f/2 and f/2.5), I'm going for the cheaper versions. This option is not proposed in the case of the 135mm where there is only mention of the f/2. While I am this is a beautiful lens, I've only found one and it is outrageously expensive, while f/2.8s are quite common. Anybody have experience with one and can share his opinion please?

Cheers,
Damien

It's an average performer, if cost is of primary importance look into the 80-200 f2.8 AFD (Two touch Non AFS) you can get these for $600 bargain condition at KEH and it will cover all those focal lengths with very good quality.
