View Full Version : Red #142 For Sale?

YES, THE UNTHINKABLE.

So, right when I am all set to start working this camera in NYC, I book a two month out of town gig in Greece and Italy doing b-roll shooting and digitech work for a travel show shooting on multiple HVXs.

Unfortunately, it's not practical for me to take the Red given the current gear load and don't think I haven't thought about it.

That being said, I needed 142 to start making at least a little money out of the gate to stave off some cash flow issues associated with having just dropped 20K. Middle finger to all the producers who currently owe me a check :)

I am negotiating to place the camera with a rental facility in the city, most likely going with my pal Mark at Offhollywood. However, if someone comes along and makes it worth it, I am a rational, business-minded sort of man willing to part with the holy grail of digital movie cameras.

In any case, it's on Ebay this week but I will also accept direct offers. You can PM me or email me at red142@mac.com

THAT would be the SMART move - if you are a LONG TERM thinker - like myself. See you in the Scratch suite tomorrow -

Do you already have it in your possession? I have lost track on what serial number they are supposed to be on.

i tried to get some juice going for you, on the bidding, but honestly, give it to Mark to rent until your return. Unless someone offers you 20k over what you paid I would hold.

Well, people are going nuts on this ebay auction.

If you truly don't want to sell it on ebay, I would cancel ASAP. An ebay auction is a legally binding contract for both buyer and seller. OTOH, if the auction finishes high enough, it may not be a bad deal. Just sell the camera and place an order for a new one.

I'm not surprised! It's worth every penny :w00t: Can you imagine who just found out about the RED ONE and can have it in 7 days and not wait 7 months? I know I'd be bidding if I hadn't reserved! I say it hits 40K

Hmm .. I didn't think you could cancel ebay auctions after a bid has been placed ?

Not that it's any of my business, but are you going to tell the winner before or after the auction that the warranty is not transferable and is void?

In the listing on Ebay warranty issues are mentioned and there is a link to Reds terms, sounds more than fair to me.

It's not over until the fat lady sings.
I am still trying to convince him not to sell his camera, and to park it at Offhollywood.
Doesn't everyone understand that RED is wrapped in karma?
Sell an early reservation = 7 years of bad luck.

Anyone care to place a bet? 20 bucks or the expensive draft beer of your choice says he sells.

Clayton, you can win this bet easy.

Ian, I think the bet should be limited to one draft beer. I was witness to your current low tolerance to alcohol. I fear the women of Brooklyn would be defenseless against your unbridled charm if you were to have $20 worth of draft beer.

37.7K. Good for you man.

EDIT: I just read your comment about rental agreement. Don't think you can cancel an auction with less than an hour to go. Unless you're joking...really your laughing on your way to the bank anyways, but I think you have to sell to the highest bidder at this point no?
Anyways, you've done really well. The secondary red sellers market will be dropping every two weeks as the cameras ship, so I think that the monetary gain between optimum renting potential (look at the number of red rental posts) and selling as you did is negligible, and you can now get the red body for free!!!!! Although I do see Mark's point: slow and steady, like renting out the basement of your house...

Isn't that illegal of you? You let it go off auction, which is then a binding agreement for you to sell it to the highest bidder.
