Final Cut Pro and QT Problems...HELP!!!

Hi,
we posted a thread this last night with some footage shot with RED #110 in Berlin. We have got all the material here now and want te begin with the edit. Using Final Cut Pro. So we installed the FCP plugin and the QT (7.3.1) plugin and Red alert and redcine. but in FCP and in QT the Quicktime reference files did not play correctly. we could only see half a picture with tle lower half displaying a verry strange color flickering. in addition QT crashes. we had the same problems in Red alert. But REDCINE works fine. We have now cleard up the whole system and reinstalled everything. no change.

does ANYONE have an idea what we could try.

Did you shoot on 4k 2:1 framing or in 4k 16:9 framing ?

we shot in 4K 16:9. at 25fps...
nothing unusual...

Make sure you do NOT have the QT 7.4 package installed. Rob recommended against it.

that is why we reinstalled the whole system. to remove all traces of QT 7.4...

That is characteristic of having shot in 4K 16:9. To solve for this, you must render out the 4K 16:9 .R3D files in REDCINE to a different codec - for example ProRes.

I'm in the same situation. In the near-term I'd like to do an edit for Blu-ray but would like to avoid having to re-edit in the future.

Are there any codecs that are waveform-based like the R3D codec ? It seems pretty handy to be able to just edit the reference movie.

Or perhaps if I export in ProRes in 2K - can I export the edit points and apply them to the 4K files at a later date ?
