Hello!

We are selling a full Canon K35 Speed Prime Cine Lens Set.

The package includes all 5 lenses:

Canon K35 18mm T2.8
Canon K35 24mm T1.6
Canon K35 35mm T1.4
Canon K35 55mm T1.4
Canon K35 85mm T1.4

All lenses are in BNCR mount. Due to the very close specs between BNCR and PL, a BNCR mount should be extremely easy to do for RED - if they don't come up with a mount first. Alternatively, you could have someone qualified change all the lens mounts to PL, if you prefer.

These cine lenses are very sharp and contrasty, right on par with Zeiss Super Speeds. In fact they are especially renown for being sharper than Zeiss when wide-open. All in all, they are wonderful, extremely fast cine lenses - perfect for RED ONE or 35mm format. They feature beautiful, solid housings, expanded focus scales and integrated focus gears. They also have standard 80mm fronts. These lenses have won an Academy Award for their aspherical design.

The lenses are in great shape, the glass is in superb condition. We have shot a feature and several shorts with these lenses and they produce wonderful, sharp images. Full sets of cine lenses are damn near impossible to find these days, so I think these fast lenses are not to be missed if you want some motion-picture quality glass on your RED. If you want very fast cine lenses at a relatively affordable price, it's either this or the Zeiss - and these Canons are the equal (and in some cases superior) to Super Speeds in every respect.

See the thumbnail for a preview picture, or clink this link to download a higher-quality version of the same pic.

By the way, these lenses not only cover S35, but they cover the full 35mm still photography area as well! (except the 18mm). This makes them the ideal choice for use with a 35mm adapter on regular video cameras - they will not vignette and you don't have to zoom as much and/or use an achromat - the image is bright from edge to edge. Thus this set is a perfect match for all three formats - RED, 35mm and regular video with a mini35 adapter.

Thanks for looking.

EDIT: Because of Doug's commitment to produce a BNCR mount for RED if supplied with a spare BNCR mount, I am adding - free of charge - a BNCR camera mount. See attached pic.

I own a set of these lenses and I think they're really fantastic. They have wonderful sharpness and contrast, even wide open. They flare a little more than the modern lenses of course, but hey they were good enough for Kubrick!

I can also attest to this gentleman's good standing. He is a good friend...and plus he shot a really great film with these lenses!

I was initially asking $15,000 for the full set.

Although it seems if I hold out long enough I will be able to get my asking amount, or close enough (since there is such a shortage of motion picture glass at the moment), I decided to drop the price on my Canon K35 Super Speed Prime Lens Set in order to sell a little bit faster.

The price now for the set is $13,000. We believe it is more than fair for such a fast, high quality lens set. You will not find a cheaper alternative if you want cine glass on your RED or film camera.

Let me know if you are interested, and thanks again for looking.

That is really interesting me and you say:

Hi Adrian, what did Kubrick shoot with these lenses?
thanks

elements of Barry Lyndon were shot with these....

Leon - I was the first and the time is why it cost so much....it should be decidedly less expensive for someone now since my set was the guinea pig set!

To ADRIAN:
Well, unfortunately, our friend Jacek uses your bill as the reference price he
would charge me: 5600 ! So the interesting deal with "eastco" becomes costly !
Maybe someone on the eastcoast or elsewhere would be cheaper but I asked "eastco" and have no answer !

yeah...that was the price, sorry my friend!

Hello LEON,

Jorge at http://cinematechnic.com.
He is great and an awesome guy, very honest, reasonable prices.

If you plan to use them for RED, definitely I will go with a camera BNCR mount instead. Should be very easy to make.

I also replied to you - check your messages.

To answer the Kubrick question...

Yes, he used the Canon K35s on several low light shots on Barry Lyndon - NOT the candle lit ones, obviously. I have to be honest and say that I don't remember where I read that - but I did.

Like I mentioned, the K35s are right on par with the Zeiss Super Speeds and even SHARPER than those lenses when wide open. I figure that was the reason for their use.

The set is still up for sale.

Since Doug Underdahl is now doing a BNCR camera mount for RED, I want to sweeten my deal even more.

I am offering free of charge a BNCR camera mount taken from an Arri III film camera. That is the only thing Doug needs to do a BNCR mount for RED ONE. It should be very simple to do the mount (and I am quoting Doug).

Face it - you will NOT find a better deal for high-quality, fast motion picture glass now or (especially) in the future. The price now at $13,000 is much more than reasonable and I will sell to the first one who can match this with a serious offer.

See lens mount pic attached.

Easco, thank you for the compliment!

I know I'm going to get a lot of e-mail on this, so let me answer the question here instead for all. I did convert an 85mm T1.4 K-35 to PL. It was a difficult job because the fixed rear element and the linear guides had to be "extracted" from the rear cone of the lens and then made to fit into the black cone of a PL mount. A very complex and difficult machining and assembly job.

It would be MUCH easier to just put a BNCR mount on the RED. I have already posted about this on another thread. I'm going to take some measurements and work up a drawing ASAP to get an idea what the cost of manufacture will be.

BTW, as a Kubrick-ophile, I can confirm that in an interview, John Alcott mentioned using some of the Canon lenses.

Hello!

Before I post this superb set on eBay (for a slightly higher reserve), I am lowering the price for the very last time in order to sell to someone from the RED community.

The Canon K35 Super Speed Prime Lens set will go now for only $12,500.

In addition, I am still offering a free of charge BNCR camera mount.

Best,
George

Hi,

I am keeping this set available on reduser.net for a few more days starting today, Thursday, February 7th. Price is $12,500 plus a free BNCR camera mount. Any REDUser can buy it for that within this time limit.

After that, I will post it on eBay with a reserve price of $13,000. I will post the eBay link here on Monday.

It's your last chance to get this superspeed set for an incredible price.

Thanks.

An article on the use of canon lenses in Barry Lyndon is HERE (http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/sk/2001a/bl/page1.htm). it mentions a the use of a canon f/1.2 for situations where the natural light was too dark - like the robbery scene which was shot in the woods on a very overcast day.

what'd you think of the k35 lenses? were you happy with them? I've been curious about that glass for a while...

I have used the K35s, very nice lens set, they are usually BNCR which is why they went out of fashion IMO

Honestly I havent tryed them out yet!!! But he ( The guy I bought them from ) sent a short film shot on it and it is really really nice, There really is a rich organic feel to them.

With this its no problem.

http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProductDetail03.asp?productID=1166&Cat=8&Cat2=18&Cat3=26

A couple of people have already gotten in touch about them off list so I will say my asking price here.

19.500USD for the set of 5...

I am no tech person so I am not going to be able to give super in depth answers about them. They are very good shape. No I have not had them tested etc.

WHy am I selling? I need the F_ing cash now like everyone else. I see they go for 4.500USD at Visual products these days. I ask for less then whats on the market and yes I want to make a profit off of them.

Had I been in another position financially at the moment I would hold on to them for the up coming Scarlet but that is not the case and so I need to let them go.

I could consider trading a Red Kit for them if someone has an extra used body etc and wants to swap.

No I am not selling them seperately only as a set.

Cheers,

DogDay.

Those are very interesting lenses and shame made no longer, but I think more realistic price would be in the 10-14.00 range.

As RED has announced a 5 lens set for s35 (http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=27080) just under 20K I think that price will be seen as too high.

They are beautiful lenses with a great history (can't argue with Barry Lyndon). But, the RED lenses will be available within a few months. And, I just don't see how optics from several decades ago can compete with newly designed optics, esp in a digital format where lenses have to be doubly-perfect.

Its going to be hard for anyone (including me) to justify buying a set of older lenses when you can get a brand new set, under warranty, and PL mount for the same price.

Few months... I heard this many times but I'm still waiting for the RED 18-85...
New set, or some Still Photo lenses Rehoused?
And rehoused by who, by Canon, by Zeiss, by Cooke... nope by Unknow branded RED...
I think, if the condition is good, are a price in line with the Superspeed, maybe better price-quality rapport.

A "RED Month" is about 4 or 5 months in the American calendar. So a couple months is closer to 6 months to a year. Not to mention there's a small chance they could compete with the quality of a lens manufacturer like Zeiss. Though they will be much cheaper and probably a great value to a filmmaker on a budget. I'm sure I'll go out for a set myself but I don't expect the same quality for a prime set that has more than twice the cost and I'm not expecting to see them in my hands in a couple months.

Thanks guys for the feedback, really. I have no problem with lowering the price especially if its in proportion to what they are actually worth. It wouldn`t feel right to rip someone off. You guys know better than I do about these things so I am willing to listen.

About actually getting things sold its one thing discussing its another actually pulling the trigger.

To cut through that though I think lowering to a starting price of 12.000USD and giving it untill the end of next week and who ever is serious will make a best offer, if anyone wants to cut the line and grab them then first to put 16.000Usd on the table gets them at once. And that will be the cap.

Thats roughly 6.000USd less then what Visual Products is asking and 4.000USD more than what I paid. So maybe everyone can be happy about this if there is a real buyer out there.

If no one here steps up with real cash by the end of next week I am grateful for the feedback and advice and will try my luck on the open market and put them up on Ebay.

Fair enough?

Cheers,

DogDay.
