Hi

Searched the forum for a while and came up with nothing.
Red #213 which I recieved about a week ago, and I am working through learning the screens/functions.
The first thing I shot was at 4k 2:1 for no special reason.
I was able to view/manipulate and output in Redcine OK. And the framing
turned out as expected. IE what I saw on the RED LCD at the time of shooting.

Well today I set the camera up in my studio for another learning session, and decided to set it for 2K 2:1 and try varispeed 70 fps for some slomo.

I shot a few clips, and offloaded and opened in Redcine. I was suprised that my framing was way off. Not at all what I was looking at on the RED LCD.

So I went back to the setup, and sat with the manual and explored the menus again.

I cannot get any sort of guides up on the screen.
The joystick actually moves the image around, like I can pan left and right, up and down.
After exploring the menus for an hour or more I am more confused than I was before. In the ignorance of my first try everything came out as expected, but now I have no idea if what the RED LCD is showing me is actually what I am recording.
Anyone shed some light?

Bill

sounds like you were in some kind of zoomed in pixel peeping mode. start hitting buttons.

One of the user buttons on the side (under the Red record button) is a zoomed in image for focus check.

This would be my guess.

Good Luck,
Rich

side button #2 zooms in to frame ... you can then use the toggle on back of camera to move around the frame ...

"I shot was at 4k 2:1 for no special reason"

remember that 4/2k 2:1 will work in Redcine & proxy's will work in FCP ..
4/2k ( 16x9) will work in Redcine but the proxy's will not work in FCP ...
so if you use FCP it was a very good reason to shoot 2:1 ...

Yep. Mike , Rich and Donatello got it. You are zoomed in 2x (User #1 Button next to Side Record). The joystick moves you around within that zoomed frame to assist in concentration on focal points around the zoomed frame.

I love to see valid questions asked and then answered by other redusers it's a great reminder of the community that supports RED. Thanks guys.

Hey everyone...Thanks!

Sounds like you've sent me in the right direction.
I will revisit it today (some sleep probably helps too)

On a side note maybe you guys can help me here.
Am I supposed to be able to view those proxies in quick time itself or just in FCP?

Proxies can be viewed in QT if you have installed the Red QT component.

"Am I supposed to be able to view those proxies in quick time itself or just in FCP"

yes, if you did as lighthouseMEdia said above (& you shot 4/2k 2-1 aspect )...
if you shot 4k/2k ( which is 16x9) they will not play in FCP
