AF in the 3.0.6 build is a stellar improvement to already impressive accuracy and speed. My Canon 24-70 seemed to be my slowest AF lens with the greatest amount of "search" before, and now it's noticeably faster. My 70-200, and Tokina 11-16 continue to operate wonderfully with Scarlet's AF capabilities.

Phenomenal stuff that adds to time saved. Keep up the great work gentleman of RED, I can't wait to see where the builds are a year from now, these things add great freedom to creativity!

and what the "lens auto-detect" feature? sounds intriguing - Camera is out for rental right now can´t check :/

In previous versions the camera always attempted to auto-detect the PL mount lens. This was traced to some of the forum posts reporting audio-ticking in the recorded/monitored audio stream. We've now defaulted the lens auto-detect feature to OFF, but have provided the ability to manually detect a PL mount lens or enable the auto-detect in the advanced lens menu. This menu will only be present when there is a PL mount installed on the camera.

"Fixed black shading problems at non-default exposure times"

This is awesome if it is what I think it is..

You should now be able to black shade at any exposure time. In previous versions, running black shading at a shutter faster than 1/48th failed for several Scarlet and Epic users.

Hey Red Team,

Just wondering I've installed the new firmware and I'm not seeing some of the improvements mentioned in Jarred's first post. Or perhaps I'm not understanding the descriptions properly?

1) Fixed duplicated columns in 5K playback - I'm on a bomb EVF and am still getting a scrolling picture when I go into playback mode in the EVF and have to un-plug-replug to reset it?
2) Fixed presets to enable menus on HD-SDI monitors - shouldn't I be able to navigate my menu's now using say a Small HD monitor over HD-SDI?

Thanks...

1) The scrolling issue is not resolved in 3.0.6, the bugfix note is referring to a different problem.
2) From the release notes: Disabled OSD for HD-SDI 720p > 30fps .. The UI will be available if you choose a refresh rate lower than 30 Hz in the monitor set-up menu. This release allows you to run at the non-standard SDI rates we had enabled in previous builds.

I can confirm that both of the above issues will be fixed in the next major release.

So are you saying that if I change my monitor output to 720p 25Hz (I'm in PAL land) that I should get a live update of what menu function I'm in, on the Small HD over HD-SDI?

I'm unsure if the Small HD will accept the 720p 25Hz signal, but if it does, you should have menus. Now if you have an LCD or EVF attached also, then you'll just have ui status (histograms/guides/current settings/etc) on hd-sdi.

Matthew - unless RED comes out with HDMI @ 1080p24, I'm probably going to have to attempt to convert SDI to HDMI so that I can feed my monitor's and 3rd party capture devices.

I saw earlier an link on this thread that said 'black borders on the quad hd out of the sdi".

I would be shooting quadHD.

1. Is this correct, that even if I convert from SDI 1080p24 to HDMI 1080p24 that I'll get black borders - pretty much rendering my 3rd party capture useless as a backup or for use as a quick and dirty shoot.

2. Any time frame on the HDMI 1080p24?

--
I ask because, assuming the conversion box I'll have to buy for $500 even works, the extra device is one more point of failure, and $500 wasted (any $$ NOT spent on cool new RED accessories is a waste!!!)

I expect a lot of new Scarlet users are going to be in the same boat, where their existing equipment won't work (different cost structure than large studios), and if they have to upgrade, that's not only money that RED won't get, but it might generate the impression that the cost of the Scarlet is higher than it is (as you have to replace your equipment).

Thanks!

"Removed "INTERNAL" sync option"

Is this the same sync that I use to sync 2 scarlets for 3D using the gige cable?

No, this was one of the sync options previously available in the GPIO/Sync menu that allowed cameras to generate a sync signal internally. However, this was setting was never recommended and caused people quite a few issues. The recommended way to provide 3D video timing sync to 2 cameras is via the Genlock input and Genlock setting.

3D shared settings are still available using the gige cable.

At the booth, a RED rep told me that 3.1 should come out in a couple of weeks and fix the black borders giving us a clean feed out of SDI. Hope that is the case.

1) Yes, unfortunately, with 3.0.6 and before you will still see black bars with 4k HD when using HDMI as well. I can tell you that properly scaled full screen 4k HD is coming just around the corner though.

2) I can't give you a time frame, but I'll look into making it happen.

On my system (64bit Windows) The R3D Photoshop importer works with CS5 but not CS5.5. This is a head scratch-er since the Premiere integration is only with CS5.5. If I didn't happen to have both versions on my machine I wouldn't have been able to make the importer work. It's a very cool idea by the way. Open the clip, scrub to the bit you want, say okay and you have a still. This will be perfect or a still / motion shoot I'm doing in the next couple weeks. Would love to know if there is a reason it's not working with CS5.5.

Thanks !

On my system (64bit Windows) The R3D Photoshop importer works with CS5 but not CS5.5.

This is unfortunately due to a bug we found with how CS5 and CS5.1 are installed. Both write to the same registry keys that point to the plugin location on the hard drive for Photoshop. Basically, which ever of CS5/CS5.5 was installed last gets the plugin. We are working on a way to resole the issue. Getting it in both CS5 and CS5.5 requires a little manual intervention. All you have do do is copy the Photoshop\Plug-ins\File Formats\R3DFormat folder from CS5 to CS5.5 and it will load up just fine.

After several installations of the Photoshop Plugin it is still not installed...

Mac OS-X 10.6.8
Adobe CS5 Master Collection
Macbook Pro 17" late 2010 model

The Photoshop's plugin directory does not contain the R3D format plugin. The installation completes without errors - but no plugin is installed. Photoshop still can't open R3D files...
Any chance to be able to download just the actual plugin file (instead of a installer), so I can move it into it's proper directory by myself?

Only actually had our own Scarlet in hand for 2 weeks now, so still getting comfortable with everything including workflow. We had been working with R3D files to make sure we were prepared for it but of course nothing beats shooting your own. We did the update to RCX today and immediately began using the Red Player. How did anyone ever get along without it? I know there is much more to the update, but this one portion made us very happy! Fantastic. Thank you Red!

After upgrading my Epic-X to 30.0.6 I see that 5'' LCD is very subtle flickering.
I haven't seen it in previous 30.0.0 build.
It's not big problem, but image on LCD is now little bit more inquiet.

Did RED decreased refresh rate of LCD?

Hi James,

It is a utility app we include that handles some file association magic for us. It determines which application (Player or RCX-Pro) get's an .R3D file when when double clicked for example. You'll never need to use it directly.

Cheers,
David

I need help.. Ever since I updated my RCX Pro to 13 on my 10.6.8 Mac Pro, I get the beachball festival then frozen computer. It happens a couple minutes after boot up. No matter what app I use. Redcine-X Pro, Resolve, or just finder.. I deleted the 13 from the application folder and installed the 12 just to see if it would solve it, but it didn't. Could anyone tell me what I need to delete to completely remove what the 13 may have left on my system?

System Specs:

Mac Pro 3,1
16GB RAM
ATI 4870
16TB RAID
Decklink 3D
CUBIX Box with 1 x RR and 3 x Quadro 4000

Prolly a dumb question, but I'm not understanding the Photoshop plugin. I installed it, but when I launch PS 5 I cannot import R3D's. I must be missing something obvious...

Paul, did you install the new Redcine X? The Photoshop plugin works great over here with CS5. I would guess it could be the launcher app or something else from RCX that you need.

Hey Nook, get AppZapper. You drag the application icon to AppZapper, and AppZapper detects any associated application support files and does a clean delete of everything associated with the application. It's the uninstaller that Apple forgot. http://appzapper.com/

Paul,

First, I'm assuming you're on a Mac. If you're not, could you please private message me here on the board?

Did you happen to move Photoshop CS5 from its default install location of /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5/ ? If that is the case, there is an issue with the installer properly locating the Plug-ins folder for Photoshop. I think i've found a workaround for it for the next release of the plugin. The fix is still being tested internally. For now what you can do is copy the plugin from /Library/Application Support/red/Photoshop Plugin/ into /Path/To/Photoshop/Plug-Ins/File Formats/ folder and it will appear next time you launch Photoshop.

That was the fix. Yes, on a Mac, but the system drive has a custom name so I bet your installer couldn't find the folder.
