A lot of you have asked that I document my discoveries of a working Adobe workflow. Here's where I am right now.

The software:
Adobe Production Suite
Cineform and their command line app
Color Finesse 2

Shoot with RED (wow the locals)
Offload into system
Use Cineform command line app and create Cineform RAW files.
Edit in Premiere
Color correct using Color Finesse 2
Output

I am still VERY early on in this process, but so far, it looks like this is a winning workflow. It's simple, fast (In RED terms) and quality seems to be strong.

I am still working through various issues (Like looking for the ability to do masts in Color Finesse.

I'll keep writing as more happens. I need to get David to confirm that Color Finesse is making FULL use of Cineform.

I would like to have the Color Finesse confirmation, but haven't spoken to those guy in ages. Any color corrector uses 32-bit float I/O will be an excellent fit for Premiere or After Effects based color correction. I sure Color Finesse fits that description.

Great news. Is this running on the configuration you discussed on the "Building a PC for Redcine" thread

David,

I do have a Mac Pro, and I am using Neo 4K through BootCamp. I also hold a license for Aspect HD. I use Premiere Pro for XP, and CS3 and FC Pro for Mac. How can I get to create, without "command line application", Cineform RAW material out of the R3D files? Please advise.

Thanks,

Luis Otero

This is what Red has asked CineForm withhold until their SDK is ready. So at the moment I can't advise. Finger crossed that the market is opened up after NAB '08.

Color Finesse has always used 32-bit float internally, you just need to confirm that it now uses the 32-bit modes that have been added to AE and PPro in recent versions. Back when CineForm wass used for the DI for Dust to Glory, Color Finesse had to used in AE's in 16-bit mode. We added a custom mode between CineForm and Synethic Aperture soon after so 16-bit per channel YUV could be used in Premiere Pro 1.5 for CineForm projects. Then Adobe gave us native 16-bit and 32-bit in both AE and PPro, and I haven't tested C.F. within the latest Adobe versions.

I will get around to testing this myself one of these days.
