No-one could tell me why they only projected "Loom" in 2k not 4K?

A technical hitch, which unfortunately our engineers couldn't resolve in time,

Disappointing, as if we could have shown everyone 4K per eye this week we certainly would.

Is "Loom" available to view on the net?

Ted told me at IBC the projector is behind schedule. We won't be able to buy it this year :/

They said early next year a while back. They have to finish the development process along with field testing and FCC certification.

24 more days of engineering have passed. I'm simply posting for Stuart to throw us a bone. What screen do you guys recommend for this projector?

Is a separate Silver Screen going to be necessary for 3D?

Note that Christie Digital just demoed a laser projector at IBC:

[Link is down at the moment due to East coast flooding.]

They emphasized it's only a prototype and they're still months away from shipping, but they were demoing 14fL of brightness with 3D images, which is pretty stunning.

LOL the headline reads... "World’s First Laser-Projected Screening of Full-Length Movie Debuts With Christie Laser Projector"

So RED's Laser Projector doesn't count because they screened a short? LMAO!

A polarity-retaining screen will be necessary for passive 3D, yes.

Judging by what Red demoed at NAB, my guess is that they don't plan to compete in the large-scale (80'+ screen) theatrical market, which is dominated by companies like Barco, Christie, and Sony. This Christie projector is 63,000 lumens, which I think is pretty unprecedented by any measure.

Last time I read about Red Projector, they claimed that it's scalable. $10K for minimal package and way up. I'm very curious to find out if the full blown theater version of the Red Projector is anywhere near Barco and Christie in terms of the specs. Great times, anyway.

Yup. More laser modules = More lumens.

I'll take that bet. :) Red is designing an IMAX like sensor to be released next... why would they not play in the arena that will be displaying it?... I also see this in Manhattan in 2-3 years... thanks to this affordable new Projector...

Does anyone know any technical specs of this projector such as the minimum throw distance and the type/quantity of inputs?

Very little has been released. The Demo at NAB was behind a class case... so that most of what you ask is not finalized yet.

Very Little is known. Even though RED Claims the projector can be had under 10k. Is that with a lens? Also you will need a good silver screen to retain polarization of the 3d. Does it come with 3d glasses? What is the lumens output?

What do you think the input method is going to be?

Slam a REDMAG SSD into the machine and watch your footage in glorious full res 4k? Will the Red Ray debayer the RD3s like a RR card?

Jeremy Torrie

Not with a lens, but I remember the post where Jarred showed a pic with an RPP 50.

Nobody outside of Red really knows what the inputs are -or if they do are under NDA...naturally Red Projector will have a pass through for post as well as from the built in Red Ray player...but we still don't know enough about how one generates their master to some manner of 4K playback media.
