can anyone share their fcp settings for realtime editing of proxies? i'm running fcp 6.0.2 on the new 8 core power mac 2.8 ghz, ati card and 10 gigs of ram. my sequence is set to unlimited rt and preview quality but always requires a render. and yes, my redcode plugin is installed but i have not yet upgraded to quicktime 7.4 yet because of the instability warnings from red. weren't others smoothly cutting quicktime proxies on macbook pros?

my quicktime and previews are fine but i can't even make simple cuts with a 500k proxy until i render first. any suggestions?

you will never have a render free timeline aside setting your sequence to redcode, but thats just an aqusition format...you cant render in redcode, set your sequence to pro res.

but your conf. seems to be good. and some have problems with their new mac pro s and the red stuff.

i have tried pro res sequences and thought the red bar would at least turn orange but it doesn't change. has any hardware acceleration been approved by red yet?

In order to run in realtime your sequence settings must be Redcode. To get there just drop the appropriate clip onto an empty sequence and answer yes to the question "Change Sequence Settings to match clip settings?"

The sequence settings for 1K 2:1 are should look like this

Though I've had some trouble trying to set it manually, easiest just to drag the first clip into an empty sequence.

I've actually been able to do almost realtime, with Redcode on a Prores sequence. Experimentation may yield good results.

Drive speed is also an issue. I've had good results from Firewire 800 7200 rpm drives.

ah, you have a red bar instead of an orange bar?
change your the quality settings to medium...if you get a dropped frames message( you shouldn`t) you can switch this off....edit.

ah, you dont want to even render something out of fcp, right?
from here you are creating a XML, use yor badass tool, and get what you want out of redcine.

Well, not neccessarily. Either way this works. Just do your cutting as Redcode, then switch the sequence settings to Prores to do crossfades and titles, and there you have an all in FCP method, with maximum realtime and minimum rendering.

But yes. Badass tool coming your way momentarily.:matrix:

thanks for the responses guys. i finally got my timeline orange. though no matter how many times i tried to modify and existing sequence, it didn't work but once i created a new sequence, it it played fine and with the high resolution proxy too!

can't these proxies be brought into a sequence without having to render them?
if not, then this seems like a terrible format to cut with.
i am trying every combination of sequence setting there is... is there not a simple "Easy Set-Up" which the RED people recommend???

The 'easy set-up' is to drag a redcode clip to a new/empty sequence and let Final Cut match your sequence settings for you. Set your RT engine to 'unlimited' and edit away.

I dropped an _H (1024x576 - 1K 16:9) onto a sequence and said yes, and it still had ProRes422 as the codec.

Changing the codec to REDCODE just caused weird spazzy playback. The infinite sequence/project/render/etc settings in FCP drive me crazy.

proress 422 1920 x 1080 (HQ) 23.98 should be your preset.

drag a 2k proxy from a 4k shot into the timeline.

make sure rt = unlimited and quality = med or low

answer yes to the conform question...and orange bar and real time playback.

I think i have read that there is problems with 4k RAW files shot in 16/9 and quicktime. You should only shoot in 4K 2:1.
I don´t know if RED has fixed this problem??
