Hi All

I'm looking for a file that contains both the .R3D and Quicktime generated by the camera (assuming that feature is enabled at this stage). Could someone post some of that, or direct me to where I could find it? Also, I'm slightly confused as to best option for offline/online workflow. If the camera creates linked Quicktime footage- is it not a good option to offline with the camera quicktime?

the camera can generate the 3 QT proxy files ...
only FCP6 can read the proxy files ( you must shoot 4/2k 2-1 aspect not 16x9) ..
the 3 proxy files must stay in the folder with the R3D clip - do not separate them ....

Thanks donatello- don't suppose you have a folder with the two together that you could post- for me and anyone else who wants to check out the workflow- to play with?

Just to clarify- i don't have access to a camera yet, so I'm looking to download a folder that I can use to test working with the R3D and in camera quicktime.

Thanks

I'm just making sure you know this. RedAlert can create quicktime proxies and there are plenty of r3d files at redrelay.net to play with. I am not aware of there being a difference between the quicktimes the camera creates and the ones from RedAlert.

Hi Jarred- I have downloaded files and made proxies with Red Alert. Call me obsessive but i wanted to also play with some that had been created in camera. To find out what- I don't know. But doing this I've already found out, from Donatello, that you have to shoot 4/2k 2-1 aspect ratio, which is actually very good news as far as what I'm doing goes. If anyone has any that they can chuck up there it would be great! Thanks again,

RCooper,

You'll find no difference between quicktimes created in camera and those created by RedAlert. The quicktime file simply contains instructions, telling the Redcode Quicktime Component, what file to read and specifying the size and quality at which it will read the data. All the real data is still contained in the R3D file. Thus the quicktime file is called a proxie, which could also be described as an alias, a pointer or a reference.

You can read these quicktime files in any "Quicktime enabled" program. But you will find that currently the quality is not as high as what can be achieved in RedCine or RedAlert, because the Redcode Quicktime component does not completely decompress and debayer the .R3D file.

Cheers,
IBloom
