System Specs:
Intel 3930 on Asus P9X79 Pro (overclocked to 3.9 mhz)
16GB of Ram
2 x WD RE4 500GB drives in RAID-0 using onboard raid controller
Quadro 580FX for GUI and GTX570TI with 2GB of Ram for CUDA
Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI
Playback performace for Half Good R3D debayer
4K = about 22-24 fps (1080p25 timeline)
4K HD = REALTIME with about half a dozen of nodes no problem (1080p25 timeline)
Premier Pro CS 5.5
4K HD = REALTIME with "half" for playback resolution using Quadro 580FX (1080p25 timeline)
My Conclusion: Since my work is delivered at 1080p or lower 4K HD is the perfect solution solution for me in terms of realtime editing and color grading.
