"4K images will be projected on a Sony 4k projector in our booth. We will show working cameras, live capture and a complete working REDCINE workflow in the booth."

Existing HD workflows (Viper, Genesis, etc...) between acquisition to post are still mostly a black art. If what Red intends to show is true, it blows my mind to think that they'll be demonstrating such a straightforward end to end workflow from acquisition through post and projection. I don't think anything like that has been done before for any camera at a show.

Since Red has a partnership with Assimilate, It would be great if grading with Scratch will be included as part of the workflow demo. That would be unbelievable to see something like:

Shoot -> Redcine (convert to flavor of choice) -> Scratch (timing) -> Projection

Not sure if it's feasible give the restrictions of time to do that but it would really make a powerful point.

I'm really looking to seeing a close-up of the workflow.

I take the quote from JJ to imply that there won't be an off-site theatre style projection event for RED this NAB? That's too bad if true, but understandable. You don't want a 4K projection in your booth and compromise with 2K at an external venue...

They own the projector though, so I'm sure if there were enough demand, they'd do another theater showing.

Damnit! Had to work during the recent screening in Los Angeles. Can't wait to see the most recent footage on their Sony 4K for myself!

Red crew............. How large of a screen will the footage be showing on this time around?

Remember, this will be in Vegas so you gotta make it BIG!

How is the existing workflows a black art?

Well, folks who've worked with these are better equipped to answer than I am, but for instance, with the Genesis the camera internally converts the 14-bit signal to 10-bit log for storage as a 4:4:4 RGB data stream. Which is massive. Around half a terabyte per hour. So they convert to SD and edit to an EDL that's used to conform a master from slaved Panavision HDCAM decks that function as the storage medium for their camera. So you're pulling in data from magnetic tape as needed and grinding it out into proprietary files for export to a lab for filmout or encoding for digital delivery. Just thinking about it long enough to kind of explain what I understand about it is making me wish I could cut some film with a razorblade and forget that digital acquisition was ever invented.

Hi Guys,
Existing workflows for Genesis and Viper are ESTABLISHED workflows
for post and production used everyday.
Obviously the crew at RED think they have somthing better.
I wish them the best of luck, yet the proof will be in the pudding.

It's a prop for those gay cowboy movies that we indie filmmakers create. :clown2:

Sorry, tasteless South Park reference.

We only have a 40x50' booth. The screen size is 16'x9' (interestingly enough).

I look forward to seeing the new footage Jim.

Is there any chance we'll have a Red One with the 15mm rod adaptor mounted? I'd really like to see if the Redrock wireless follow focus system will work taking into account Red's somewhat high lens mount.

Sure. I don't think anyone was questioning whether or not the workflows used for the Genesis and Viper yield results. It's obvious that they do. Lotta work being done with both cameras. It's just that the workflow is by necessity kind of a nuisance. The RED workflow as it's been described would be far less of a hassle and require a lot less man-hours to get the job done. Not to mention far smaller storage arrays to accommodate the footage. If it works as claimed the Genesis and Viper workflows will seem a little like the EditDroid system looks to us now.

Red's workflow seems like a dream come true to me so far, can't wait to see it in person at NAB.

'Live' to 'near live' streaming on some of the keynote (free) speeches etc would be great! Probably need permission.

Hi Stuart'
Engish was my grandfathers name and he loved a boiled christmas
