This isn't quite as cool or useful for Red purposes as the stuff Evin is doing... but still interesting and definitely a good thing for the community...

It starts off talking about 35mm adapters (not specifically Red-useful...)

...then goes on to "Add ons - Matteboxes & follow focus"
http://www.pixelmill.com.au/Mini35/Add%20ons.html

...then "Lenses":
http://www.pixelmill.com.au/Mini35/Lenses.html
the ones he talks about are:
Zenitar 16mm f2.8
Nikon 24mm f2.0
35mm Nikon f1.4
50mm Nikon f1.4
85mm Nikon f1.4
105mm Nikon f1.8
135mm Nikon f2.0
(Nice looking follow focus gears!)

...finally he has a ton of quicktimes showing what happens when you pull focus on test charts & real-world subjects:

Great link, Bruce. I've been eyeing those Dan Diaconu gears for some time now, may have to snag a set.

Excellent Bruce!!! I'll do the rest of Nikkors and non-Nikkors and also maybe in 720p very soon for download. Needs more time to back in a normal life and prepare the things after one month on the road.

The Diaconu gears are pretty great. They have a good weight and sty in place nicely.

The follow focus on the other hand leaves something to be desired. It has a nice tight gearing with no play but the single rod design makes it shift in weird ways on the lens. Also, it's made of sort of junky plastic.

Thanks for the follow focus feedback. Unless something more enticing comes along I'm holding out for the Redrock remote control solution, probably coupled with their mattebox that is currently in development.

Ive been looking at the redrock follow focus, and ive heard mixed reviews. Apparently they were improved upon and some people used the old versions and some the new. Does anyone have definitive reviews on them?

Here's a review on the older style (http://www.freshdv.com/2006/07/redrock-follow-focus-review.html), FresHDV writer Kendal Miller found the gears to have a bit too much play. Others have stated the same concern.

In response, Redrock recently announced an upgrade (http://www.freshdv.com/2007/01/redrock-follow-focus-offers-new-upgrade-other-products.html) that supposedly addresses the issue. We should have our hands on the upgrade pretty soon and will provide an update. I'd be interested to hear from those who have the upgrade already...
