OK, I can't recall what the guy at the AJA booth told me regarding the T-Tap and when it would arrive. Does anyone know. Mostly I'm just curious because I could really use one or two of them right now.

Emailed AjA a week ago, they said that will be in next two or three months...price range around USD 240..

Anybody hear anything about a release on this yet? It's sort of the missing link in my home grading setup...

looks like Blackmagic just released a nearly identical product for about ninety bucks less - too late for me, but perhaps some of y'all can benefit....their new mini recorder looks good, too....

I've always had issues with BM gear, they are slow to respond to issues that needs firmware updates so gear just sits waiting.

No way close T-Tap

why not?

you plug one side into Thunderbolt, the other side into either SDI or HDMI....

what is different, besides the price?

I bought a T-Tap - not sure where I see a better value, though, unless the Blackmagic version falls apart in your hand. both are little square boxes with 3 connecting ports....

or am I missing something?

Indeed---what are the differences--i was looking at T-tap myself and now see the BM box....BUT, regardless of either one, are they capable of sending a ten bit signal ? Or are they merely quick converter boxes to just plug into HDMI and SDI ?

Kwan, are you suggesting the BM does not support 10bit and 3d then?

There both 10bit (play back)
No(or not yet) 3D Processing in Ultra Mini Monitor

So the Aja supports 3D, and the BM does not? So, if I'm not planning on 3D, get the BM? That makes sense to me. And explains the price difference. Am I missing something?

Kwan's right - full specs listed at B&H outline the limits of the Blackmagic versus the T-tap. The Blackmagic is adequate for many applications right now, for most 1080 monitoring, but the T-tap has better throughput and is more flexible:
