I hope that is not a too stupid question:

IŽd like to mail a part of an r3d file. The original file is too big for uploading. So, how do I create a 30 second fraction of it? Without transcoding.

Kevin? Welcome on board. ;-)

Cheers,

Jochen

Many people have asked for this... Red is supposedly working on some command-line utility for R3D cuts, which I think was intended for release in Feb.

No reason why not. Actually, using the time lapse mode you can generate these in-camera.

not exactly. RED is working on a commandline tool that will trim .r3d files.

The application we are building - among other things - will batch process .3rd files based on an NLE XML - and trim them with user selected handles - but we need the command line from RED and it is not ready yet - we will announce some details of our application (we call the project "RedTools" but we may rename the app) in a few weeks -

As far as I know, there is no technical reason why not. Actually some people started writing such a utility months ago, but Red asked them to wait until Redcode was finished since the file format is still changing and they didn't want unofficial tools causing support problems. We are told Redcode will change further with the upcoming firmware builds #14 and 15. After that, I expect R3D editing tools will become available, from Red and/or third parties if and when Red gives the go-ahead.
