In the spirit of change...
We have listened to our customers and are making a policy change. We will extend the "beta" period until March 1st. All reservation holders can wait until that time to decide if they will accept their RED ONE.
We will continue to ship cameras (in order) to those reservation holders that want their cameras. But no reservation holder will lose his place in line until his/her decision on March 1st.

Whether I exercise that option or not, I really appreciate having it. Thanks!
Jim,
A saw a film transfer at DuArt NY form a RED camera and I was really impressed with the picture quality level achieved. I'm used to shoot on film and I'm now convinced that I can finally, and comfortably, choose to shoot on RED. Congratulations on this incredible achievement. I encourage all the people that have doubts about the camera to see some 35mm film transfer. I'm sure they will make a quick decision, even if the camera is "officially" Beta.

You had me at hello...Red, completes me.
Anyway, theoretically if 1-499 were to be paid up and shipped by the end of this month does this essentially mean that say camera 500 decides to wait it out, that 501 would have a chance to move up into the next batch going out (batch 301-500)? And if 500 decides to get theirs on March 1st they'll be first up in the que at that point? Want to make sure I'm understanding the que correctly. If you can't tell, I'm anxious to get mine (next batch) but still as calm, cool and collected as Tom Brady on a Sunday afternoon (sorry, couldn't resist finally dropping a Patriot's reference on the site).

Jim,
Up to this post I figured we had till 1st Mar to pay for our agreed order anyway.
Are you now saying we have 1st Mar to place our final orders and then 30 days to pay for this order?

I'm also in the next batch. But I would need 61 cameras to decide to wait in order for me to get mine any earlier. I went ahead and wired my money weeks ago, just in case. Although it did seem odd that the bank I wired the money too was located in Nigeria? (ha ha, j/k)
There are only a few of us on here from NE to appreciate the Patriots reference, but I am definitely one of them. GO Pats!

Just hurry up and build #954 dammit. Yeah I'll take build 16 (apparently that also makes coffee). There's some pretty frustrated Tiger Sharks out here needing 4k mug shots.
All in good faith of course.
Cheers,
Mark.

I would love an update at the end of each month by the RED team stating what serial numbers were actually delivered that month, and what serial numbers they expect to deliver the upcoming month. That would be awesome for everyone to keep up to date as to when their personal decision/order will need to be made. Any chance of this?

Is the "beta" term only related to the software, or you anticipate some hardware changes?
Thanks

is this warrning for all reservation holders or only for those keeping thier
orders on Hold :excl:
Thanks! This is important for us, since we're buying the Red to use with Nikons, and I'm looking primarily at a PC workflow, the extra time to sort such things out might be just what we needed.

I speak up when I think something isn't right and I speak up when something sounds right and I applaud RED for this move. RED has asked a lot of flexibility from their customers and they're returning the favor--certainly weren't obligated to but stood up for their customers. Bravo.

It must be the first time I hear something from Jim which is not really crystal clear to me. Does that move apply to ALL reservations holders, including reservation numbers well down in the order such as mine. Or does it apply to numbers ready for shipment (i.e up to #500) ? I had always figured that balance payment was to be completed just prior to shipment, on receiving the much-awaited e-mail "your camera is ready, etc.". Could anyone fill me in ?

Is there anything new with the Beta policy change, since March 1st is already gone since some weeks?

My guess is that as long as the image changes have been delayd untill firmware 16, RED will not be out of beta untill firmware 16 is out of beta.
It has been stated that one can delay ones pickup untill specific problems are solved. Nowaday these problems seem to be mainly workflow and accesory hardware related. (Base production pack, cast accessories and the RAID has been taking a beating lately...)
But an official statement on this would be interesting...
How are your REDS doing in your shop?

Look here:

"...The new RED policy regarding the ability for the reservation holder to wait for their camera, whether due to accessory fulfillment, feature set completion or financial circumstances, is this: If you have a reservation and wish to delay delivery of your camera package (for any reason), you can, by notifying RED at orders@red.com within (30) days of receiving your first delivery notice email. Once you decide you are ready to take delivery of your camera, you can send final payment and RED has (30) days to work you back into the delivery rotation. Your camera serial number will remain intact".
So if your funds aren't quite all ready yet, or not all accessories are available, or any other reason, and your 30 days comes up, you can choose to drop out of line but still keep your serial number. When you're ready, let Red know and they will have 30 days to work you back into line. A very generous offer!

ok nothing very new now. Gunleik, our 5 Red´s are doing well, working a lot and after every production we´re going on testing. One of our customers just finished a 3 weeks production with no problems in Mexico with a extra built fisheye lens for the hamburg planetarium.
we are now thinking about a new sideplate with better connectors (full bnc, full xlr and the computer interfaces behind a cover.

no, thats not what we are looking for. I know that already. we want to have a complete new right side, because of all the dust und "schmodder" coming in or inbetween these attached boxes. We think it could be useful to have also a tc display on the right side. This is what many of our customers wants to have.
And with the airseland box we haven´t solved the problem with the pc interfaces which are really damageable.

A design for a 'cable anchor' to protect the HDMI, & USB connectors is on the drafting table and can be incorporated into the design of the IOP4R-1. However, we have found that the panel already protects these ends from a direct hit. I would consider a TC display as a possible future option. It all depends on demand.
