Hey Everyone,

For any one that didn't manage to make it to the RED booth and see us at NAB this year, I thought i would post all the information about our new Rogue unit and give people a chance to ask any questions or comment on our new product. We are really proud of the Rogue and hope you guys all will get a chance to see one in person soon. If anyone has any questions or wants to be part of our second round of Pre-Sales please feel free to post a comment or email me at info@ditstation.com. Or visit our website WWW.DITSTATION.COM (http://WWW.DITSTATION.COM) for more photos and links.

The new DIT Station Rogue is an ultra-portable and compact on-set data management and playback workstation featuring Sonnet's advanced Thunderbolt expansion, media ingest and rugged storage products.

The Rogue’s ultra-portable design integrates Sonnet’s Echo™ Express Pro Thunderbolt™ Expansion Chassis for PCIe Cards with a RED ROCKET™ transcoding and playout card (or popular video I/O cards). These devices are connected to an enclosed 13-inch MacBook® Pro platform via a Thunderbolt cable, with full RAID storage provided by Sonnet’s super-rugged and vibration-isolated Fusion™ F3 storage system. Also included is Sonnet’s Echo ExpressCard® Thunderbolt™ Adapter to ingest files from other cards, and readers for CompactFlash® cards and REDMAG 1.8" SSD drives.

The Rogue marries powerful processing and ingest capabilities with an onboard WiFi router, an iPad® mount, and full external I/O interfaces, all housed in a military-grade case with custom ventilation. This combination empowers users to receive footage direct from the camera and download it through three ready-connected, high-speed media readers built directly into the deck, perform data management tasks, view full-resolution playback, perform on-set image adjustment, and wirelessly deliver dailies right out of the case. Facilitated by Sonnet’s Thunderbolt solutions, the Rogue’s Thunderbolt connections enable the workstation to achieve speeds well beyond that of a conventional laptop-based workflow, taking full advantage of both the ultra-fast connectivity and incomparable portability. Ready to go in 30 seconds, the Rogue eliminates the time necessary for digital image technicians to set up, take down, and keep track of all the individual components of traditional equipment – leaving them more time to liaise with the DP and director. The Rogue is a true all-in-one tool for any workflow, anywhere and anytime, and it works seamlessly through the powerful integration of Sonnet’s technology.

Feel like you could do without the RED CF card reader. If you're shooting CF Cards then you could easily attach an external reader.
I dig that it comes with a cup holder.

What about using a 17” MacBook Pro Platform??????

This is so grossly overpriced it makes the other overpriced solutions look cheap.

Hi Guys

- Thanks Jake it is pretty badass.
- The price is $8650 not including MacBook. You get everything else.
- This is the standard configuration and you can customize so if you don't want a CF reader ... you don't have to have a CF reader. This isn't digital dictatorship.
- We do have plans for a 17" MBP version but the Rogue model is a super compact, over head cabin model. Ultra portability!
- We think the Rogue is priced extremely honestly, and I'd say a lot of people agree hence round two of pre sales. I'd like to see these other cheaper options and compare their design, craftsmanship, and quality.
I should also remind that although this is a public forum, that doesn't mean our manners need to fall by the wayside.

Actually the cf reader IS perfect when you are bringing in .bwf files from the audio recorder.

Very true Matt. Also just makes the system completely format agnostic for all camera formats. But if you don't want it, it's no sweats. Maybe we could add another cup holder instead, or is that going too far.

played around with one of these today (put down my deposit as soon as they were announced) and I must say, worth every dollar. This thing is beautifully crafted and built to take a beating (or a crash, eh Martin?).

also, if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.

Thank you for clarifying. This thing is total rock & roll.

Good to know you can customize. I'm not sure what I would swap out in place of the RED CF reader. If you're just dumping audio files from a CF card I think the Red CF reader is a bit overkill, in both size and price. I'm not sure if you could use two SSD readers at the same time. I would look into this more if I was going to buy one of these. For now it goes on my "Wish List" along with a Red Rocket, The Clutch, The new Leica Summilux-C lenses, and an Audi R8 GT.

That's a pretty rad wish list Brad. I play with The Clutch every time I go to the studios, they're just mechanical fun.

Two RED Mag readers is a nice way to go and a common custom option as we are seeing. It doesn't share an eSata channel so both readers retain speed which is nice.

Also Sam G is referring to the cab crash I was in yesterday in New York. Before I checked myself for injury I thought "damn the Rogue was in the boot / trunk". It had been thrown right up the car and against the back seats and turned over. I powered her up and went on to do two more demos and she's transcoding some RED footage now. If that's not battle tested I don't know what is. GOROGUE

I was so close to pulling the trigger on the original DIT station, but a change in employment left the purchase at the roadside Im afraid.

What I can say is that the guys at DITstation did go out of their way to listen to every ridiculous design request I made.

If you can afford the price tag I wouldn't expect you to regret buying one of these little beauties.

They both look rock solid, and the Rogue seems like a perfect remote location offload bank.

@Kwan

it's really tough to have an efficient set-up in NYC it's so hard due to space constrains which really determines your rig.

You've got allot of great gear but that rig is straight sktchy looking no offense, I mean your harddrives are on the floor.

you should really consider the Scout37 (http://inovativcarts.com/The-Scout) it's a great solution for a guy like you. Cart is the foundation of your kit not a C-Stand

how long does it take you to set something up like that? What if you have a to turn around and move your kit?

ROGUE maybe overpriced to some but you have the luxury of portability.

I hear you fella. I am full loaded when I'm home (NYC). This is my portable solution.
Everything in my set are mountable (whole station ready to go in 15min)
I travel every 2nd week (by Air), can't have more than 2 pelican (don't want to make production cry for extra charges - lol)

it sucks I wish it was easier to fly with a cart make things so much easier.

thats a killer travel set up you have all the toys, monitor and color wheels is a good addition those are the first things that drop out of the list in a travel kit. I've always wanted to mount a monitor inside the 1510 lid but there isn't a monitor thin with those dimensions thats worth the effort.

I too need a travel kit it's been on the list of DIT things, it seems like twice every 6 months I get a DIT job where I have to fly so I can't justify purchasing a ROGUE. If your a traveling DIT I can see the ROGUE as a rad solution.

your rig def wins the best bang for the buck but I think you forgot the cup holder hehe =)

what 2 pelican cases do you fit them in?
