I called and talked with Fletcher in Chicago today. They confirmed that they will be renting the red and they are ready for it and have reservations. I was asking in regards to the D-20 which is $3K fully loaded per day. I asked them their rental price they said it would be cheaper than the D-20. Thought I would bring this up i dont know if anyone has looked into this yet, just FYI. Based upon price and percentages it looks like the RED should rent fully loaded at between 800 to 1500 depending on lenses and external monitors.

I was going to call Fetcher myself--I was curious whether they reserved. Do they have the standard five rental house resvtns?

yeah - there's been a LOT of interest in the Red from various rental houses. Since the cost of the camera is relatively low, it gives them a new avenue to rent out (and amortize) those expensive PL mount lenses that otherwise wouldn't see as much use - and frankly, it is the accessories that push up the rental price by the time you get into the full cine-style shooting kit.

So Red is a cheap piece of bait (but lovely, high quality bait we presume) to get clients to rent the rest of the gear.

My $0.02.

It may be self promotion, but if it helps the community, then I'm all for it.

Hi,

I guess some rental houses will throw in the Red Body and charge normal rates for the accessories. Been done before and they have loads of kit waiting to be rented!

My big goal is to have a network of owner/operators in Central Texas to whom I can turn when a 2nd RED One is needed or mine fails on the set (perish the thought.) I would like to give producers, directors, and DoP's the assurance that they will have a working camera and, should there be problems, a new one could be on the set within half a day.
