RED in India

There is a very strong mis-conception that RED is available in India based on "The Hindu" Newspaper column about Alphonse ( Wildlife cinematographer), who shot on RED in USA. I know of people in India who have booked a Red camera. But I have no confirmation from anyone who actually has one in India. I do know for a fact that Red cameras have been here, probably hired from overseas.

And I know of at least one DP who has actually shot in Mumbai with a Red camera. I don't know where the camera came from, though.

I met Nirav at his apartment in chennai (16th of May) & touched the camera. He has done some tests & wanted to do a reverse telecine too. Omprakash is correct Nirav got a Red n Chennai.

I worked with Nirav Shah's RED One (#469) as DAS / DAM for a Commercial and Music Video. Om is the DOP of the commercial. RED available for rental from India officially.

Hi Guys.
Greetings from India.

Am getting my RED ONE Camera in couple of weeks and I would like to know more details about the customs duty and VAT that would be imposed on the camera?

I came to know through other European users that RED ONE being classified as a Digital Camera does not call for any duty.
Is it the same in India?

Please share your thoughts.
