Is it possible to see the cameras image during formatting?

This would be very helpful while formating the RED Drives as it takes nearly a minute. I would be nice if we could be framing our shot and focusing during the time it takes to format, which would allow us to be instantly ready to shot once the drive is formated.

Isn't it possible to format the drive on a computer?

Technically yes, but it screws up the Reel and clip naming.

Can each camera also come with a pony?

Yours didn't?

Actually Brook that pony was from me--unrelated to the camera... I had hoped I wouldn't have to come clean about it... but I don't want people getting the wrong idea... Hope you like it.

good idea with the pony.
Any comments from RED ? If we make a user request out if it ?
I'd rather take the pony too.

No, honestly, sounds reasonable. Didn't know it blanks out.

Is it possible to record 2K and 4K files on a RedDrive, or is there a formatting needed as one changes the project settings ?

I heard that it works just like the CF.

If the project frame rate stays the same there's no need for formatting (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=143693&postcount=48).

Would be cool to have a utility that could not mess up the reel/clip numbers when using a computer to format. It seems odd to have to tie up the camera for a simple function such as that.

no, you cant do multi frame rates. You format the drive for a specific frame rate.

If you do not change PROJECT RATE you are supposed in Variable mode to be able to change the frame rate , don't you ?
I 'm getting lost, one says Yes, the other NO...
WHO KNOWS ???

STUART ENGLISH: (Quote)

"This need to re-format is because when you change Project Frame Rate you are changing the underlying timecode base of all the recordings. This does NOT mean that you have to reformat when you do a varispeed recording i.e. image capture rate changes can happen within a single Project Frame Rate. For example you can shoot at 4K at 1 fps timelapse, speed ramp in 4K from 12 fps to 18 fps, switch to a 72 fps 2K high speed shot and back to 4K again for your main storyline 24 fps clips - and all within a 23.98 Project Frame Rate.
Same is true for CF cards."

I wasnt referring to Variable frame rate mode.

In other words, if you format the drive for 29.97, you cant change your project to 23.97 and keep shooting.

Once you have chosen a PROJECT frame rate, you can freely choose 4K/2K and variable speed from 1-30fps/4K and 1-75fps/2K.

No, I think you can have different frame rates, but the timecode is set at format (iirc)
