Hi all,
I have been following some of the buzz around the RED One, but I was not able to understand where it comes from.

What is so special about the One, what does it have that other DIgital Cameras do not - like cameras from Dalsa, Silicon Imaging and I'm sure there are others.

Does it have better quality, is it it's planed 4K capability, or is it just the price/performance ratio that makes the One so special?

It's the entire package of price, performance, quality and workflow.

Availability is another large part of it. It is practically impossible to buy any of the other high-end digital motion picture cameras... I'm pretty sure Dalsa only rent, not sure about SI... You can order an RED online and have it delivered (it'll be a bit of a wait now, but once the preorders are filled you'll be able to buy it like you'd buy a handycam online).

RED One provides a realistic option for producers with fewer resources to shoot 4K digital, but is also a real option for the big boys...

is it it's planed 4K capability

Hello Mark,

If I understand you correctly you meant to type "planned" 4K capability.

It's not planned, but a reality that hundreds of people around the world are shooting 4K footage with the RED at this very moment.

Have a look around the forums, especially the yellow "stickied" posts, Im sure they will answer alot of questions you may have about the camera

Nothing to add to Graeme's post than the spirit of the RED ONE Users.

For me it's the way #27 talks to me, the way she looks at me after I treat her right. It's not even the obvious as much as it the simple things that make her what she is to me. She was high-maintenance at the beginning of our relationship but we've settled into such a comfortable phase now. She gives so much and takes so litte. I still look forward to her growing in our relationship, but I could be content with her as she is now forever. Hopefully she won't be jealous when I add Scarlet for some menage a troi.

Cost and Portability.

There are cameras with imo better looking imagesbut they're not as small or inexpensive and don't record to commodity media.

Mark, because the RED One is simply the best camera out there.

Tech Specs, Price Point, etc.

There's only one problem: it's a young girl, needs attention, but she will grow soon.

1. Mysterium
2. Redcode Raw
3. Redcine
4. 4k footage in your pocket
5. Modularity
6. Upgradeability
7. The story behind it
8. The stories which will follow with it
9. The fact that it was not made by "Let’s make some money by...", but "We have some money, let’s make..."
10. Reduser.net
11. Customer interaction
12. Price
13. Multiple recording media
14. Size/weight
15. Design
16. Mentality

Any one of those factors all by itself would be enough to make it special.
Here you have 16. I’m not even close.

Footage/field tests section is a few clicks away.
Graeme was being modest.

Red breaks with tradition by using a large sensor and CMOS technology,
coupled with some interesting FREE software for post processing.
Red is unique in offering 35mm Field of View in a camera in this price range.
However you gets what you pays for, Red has little 1080p onboard processing for video applications but offers higher resolution for Digital
Cinema applications in the form of 4K raw.
All post processing is off-board in a PC or Mac and rendering out to known
industry formats, slow.
Red sits on the fence between High Def 1080p Video based acquisition and
35mm Film. Like the Silicon Imaging 2K SI and it's workflow Red is a very
intersting acquisition proposition.
Both have the attention of many in the industry.
Hope this helps.

It's the first of a kind, because of its' :

1. Performance
2. Workflow
3. Price
4. Support
5. [many other things]

Given the above characteristics, the RED One allows for unprecedented creative freedom for filmmakers and the availability of the tools of the art.

Painters always had their brush, paints and canvas but filmmakers needed thousand of dollars to create...

Now painters still have their brush, paints and canvas... and the filmmakers have their RED One...

Why bother to answer people who haven't spent more then a minute to find out themselves? It's plenty of info here, if you just look, it's so easy. Please, close this thread.
