View Full Version : Rubber caps?

Hi,

Is RED thinking of making any rubber or plastic protective caps for the ports on the side of the camera? If not, does anyone know if a third party manufacturer might be doing this? I've had a couple of enquiries from people wanting to shoot in desert and dusty conditions & think this would be a good idea, in addition to any normal general camera covers.

By the way, we've been showing our camera off at the Broadcast Live Video Forum in London, and it's been going down a storm!

Thanks,

Chris

Wouldn't be hard to get underway... The process is fairly cheap (in large quantities), although the setup costs are a little steep usually.

I wonder if someone like Element Technica might be in a position to make these things?

Typically in other cameras, they are plugged into the body of the camera, so they are attached, but if you sold a pack of 5-10 for each plug, then they could just be chucked in the camera box - they'd get lost, but who cares..

Yes, son. It's a common question with a surname spelt like mine!

Paper tapes a little cheaper and better with the residue. Make it black, cut it straight and the clients don't notice. We have unused ports taped each time we visit the beach or beach cities. Sand is not a friend of mine unless I'm surfing.

I didn't think there could be many unrelated Vinczes in the industry!

Dave,

Do you have a url for them? I tried www.mocaps.com but there doesn't seem to be anything there.

Yes, gaffer tape is easy, but it sho' is ugly.

All for a Red or third party to come up with a dust, and moisture proof solution. Money well spent.

Looks interesting. Would you be kind enough to provide exactly which items you've found useful? I know we would all appreciate it.

thanks. vince

YES...3rd party rubber ports for desert work etc would be fantastic, if anyone is listening this is an easy sell imo. Besides desert work I would even leave them on my camera at all times when ports not in use.
